The man who had worn the epauiets-of an Austrian oficer for more than three years carried a musket in the ranks of toat battalion, and was severely ‘wounded at the sanguinary battle of Pittsburg Land- ing. When be was mustered out he obtained em- ployment of various kinds, aud endured many vicis- situdes incident to the lot of a laboring man. He feared to write to his relatives, as the Austrian gov- ernment might learn his whereabouts and cause his apprehension under the extradition treaty, and 60 he sutfered and tolled in silence, until Mnaily he found Immeeli in Gaiesburg, carrying a hod on the new hotel.
