Lafayette. « A Lownatic Cours His THnoat.—On Tuesday even- ing the streets of Bergen were traversed by a lunatic brandishing a large knife at every one who passed him. Two policemen arrived to arrest him, but he threat- ened to kill the first man who approached. Onicer Monroe, however, seized him, but before he could grasp the knife the Junatic inflicted a deep wound in his own throat. A doctor was sent for, who syc- ceeded in binding up the wound. Thn lunatic, who isa butcher by trade, was then conveyed to Castle Garden. Hupson County Covrt.—Before Judges Randolph, Rohnstedt and Sturges, yesterday, John Bedar was charged with and convicted of assault and battery on Roland Dean at Hoboken during a quarrel, in which Mr. Deau’s eye was krocked out. Sentence was deferred, August Behner was found guilty of breaking open Mr. Hunt’s store at Bergen. He Was sentenced to twelve montha’ ii ent, Newark. Mr, Jerome re- ported the facts to the Contral Ofice and detective McDougall proceeded to the premises. The particulars of another bond robbery were reported at the Central OMmce yesterday. It appears that on the night of the 30th ult. there was a repub- lican procession at Trenton, N. J., and an iliumina- tion of houses took place. Among others the resi- dence of Dr. McKelway was ornamented with Chinese lanterns, &c., and presented an inviting appearance to his friends, among whom was a thief, who quietly entered, and proceeding to a room ona secoud floor, where ihe doctor had stored $11,000 in Pacific Central and $8,000 in Union Pacille Railway stock and other bonds in @ pocke:book in a smail desk. The contents of the pocketbook were ex- amined and the railway stock taken. The other bonds—New Jersey Ratlway stock —were overlooked. ‘The thief then proceeded to the lower floor and stole about $500 worth of jewelry, which was in a desk in the doctor’s office, During the excitement attend- ing the procession very little attention was pail to the doors, A man, however, was seen leaving the house, and no notice was taken of it, as the doctor had many friends about the premises.
