Still it Is oni Just to is that his impersonation of the character Jast night was a anc- cess. The piece was fairly, not excellently, put upon the stage. Lord Cliiford was impersonated exceed- ingly well by G, LF Clare rie. if hp nae a we more power al more physique, might be justifed in looking or ey a" 3 the laurels of his profession, We cannot apeak too highly of the acting of Madame Ponisi, Her Marianne last night was very near perfection. Mr. Frank Mordaunt xs Lord Jay was simply Mr. Frank Mordaunt, which means that hels always the same whatever he piays and never good, We recommend hin if he thinks he has any calling to the ane to re- sume the cultivation of both voice and gestare, WALLACK’s THEaTRE.—The last London theatrical sensation, H. J. Byron’s terrifically sensational draina of the “Lancashire Lass,” was given at Wal- jack’s last night, mounted, equipped and played as only an old play ora new play can be done at Wal- lack’a, (rom the light and sparkling comedy to the disuialest budget of criminals and crimes in tue most astounding tableaux. Here we have the old familiar heavy villain, the convict turnedgentieman, the daring aud clever sharper and his lollow, the descried Woman seeking revenge, the Taaocent coun- try girl dazzied and Prone to grief by an impostor, an honest old farmer hoodwinked, a silly heiress caught in the mosiies of the same adventurer’s net, a fine merciant hannted by a fellow convict, and various other characters introduced among the more subdued Hghts and shadows of the general grouping, and some or all of these characters drawn ether from poit to point in situations not alto- te ier new, but sutticiently ingenious to be pro- nonneed original. The: plot, thus itherally supplied with scamps and unfortunates, hawks ani pizeons, bears an extraordimary crop of startling incideats from the beginning to the ead, The play, however, presented this advantage—it furnished a sumku character to elmost every member of the cast, brought out some excellent acting, not from two or three but from a dozen performers. “The party’by the name of Johnson,” an ex-convict, a drunken loafer and # black mailer, as done by J. Wailack, was a splendid performance. burn, the adventurer, by Fisher, was @ good companion picture. Spotty, the waif and stray, by Young, was also very Be) = Kirby, the houest wnd iliiterate yeoman, as given by Brow: was a retreshing bit of honest simplicity rf cont: with the villains and vagabonds around him. The Ruth Kirby of Miss Rose Fytinge, the Lancashire Lass, however, was the central igure around which the plot and the symmathies and admiration of the honse were especially directed; and yet the Kate Garston of Mra, Jennings and the Nancy Danville of = ediey Browne were hardly less admirably ren- |. Indeed, there was no break, or hiteh, or de@- Solace in the chtire cast. ‘They were all good in thelr Une; but “the ym by the name of ‘Jounson’? and the Lancashire were. the bright particular stars of the constellation, drama, upon the whole, is a frightful oeeatechareneoe of bad characters and awful scenes, but it will draw. We have got to that point in the drama when nothing else that is new will prosper. ‘The play was a great hit and was re- ceived with uh exiracrdimary run of applause throughout, Srapt Turaree.—Mr. Hermann Tendrichs ap- peared last night as Gito von Wittelsbach, Count of Bavaria, in the old romantic drama of like name, of “Bavo.” That he personated the enraged petty sovereign and murdered his emperor with artistic skill and that passionate naturalness so character. istic of him need scarcely be said, Misa Irschiek, Miss Singer and Miss Schermana ore also specially w be comuiended. Pawk THEATRE, BROOKLYN.—An andience as large as the capacity of the Park theatre would admit of was present !ast night to sce the pew play, of a sensational and domestic order, entitled “Nita,” with Mlle. Zoe in the principal character. If a good ‘honse ond a falr share of applause can be regarded | | { as any endorsement of success for a new play, this effort of » Fulton's may clatin it, Fora first yt formance it Would not be ciaritable to indaige In a voo rigid. criticism, nor would it, perhaps, be fair towards the author to assume that the text was closely B a be by the actors. At its repetition muck the crudeness apparent last night will, doubiless, be corrected and the situations be more naturally (aken., There 8 material enough in the plot from which to Interweave the incidents es sential to # goud drama; and witn a jittic polishing up in the dia-ogne and a ’ rood deal more practice on the part of tue performers there is no reason why “Nita” should not continue to be an acceptable dion io the repertoire of Mra Conway's pretty theatre.
