Commedere George A. Prentias. ‘The telegraph announced the death of Commodore Prentiss in South Carolina on Wednesday last. He ‘was an officer on the retired list. Commodore Pren- tiss, a native of New Hampshire, entered the service as midshipman March 1, 1825, from that State, and ‘Was first on duty at the Portsmouth Navy Yard. In 1827 he served in the sloop-of-war Lexington, com- tmanded by the present Rear Admiral William B. Shubrick, President of the Lighthouse Board, then a ‘master commandant, in the Mediterranean squad- Ton.
