We have dates by the steamer Danube from St. Johns, Porto Rico, to the 18th instant. } Two appalling shocks of earthquake had been {elt ‘on the 18th instant, and the consternation mong the whole people was terrible. Havana, Nov. 22, 1867, ‘The steamer from St. Thomas has arrived with news to the 18th instant. The passengers and specie by the Solent had not been transferred to the Southampton steamer when the late hurricane set in, and consequently are safe. Ooly the islaud passengers had been transferred. , The steamer Conway is safe,as she has been got off Tortola, where she had got aground in the blow. ‘The steamer Rhone was lost on leaving Peter's Island. ‘The steamer Tamar left St. Thomas on the 14th {nst. for Southampton. Lonpon, Nov, 22, 1867, Ta the House of Commons last night an effort was made to save the lives of the Manchester riovers, Jobn Francis Maguire, the member for the city of Cork, moved that the House interfere for a stay in the execution of the sentences of the Fenian convicts at Manchester, and that meanwhtie the points of law upon which he based his resolution be referred to the twelve highest judicial authorities of the realm, The motion gave rise to a long nd earnest diveussion. The Situ: in Manchester. Mancuester, Nov, 22, 1867, ‘The city has the appearance of being in a state of loge. Most extraordinary precautions are taken by the government. Barricades have been erected in the streets for the protection of the troops, Regular infantry are stationed at different points in the city, and troops of cavalry, which nave lately arrived here, are patrolling the streets, Two of three thousand special policemen, who have been sworn in by the municipal authorities, are distribated among the police stations, where they are receiving their arms, Clergymen have been summoned to the gaol, and have deen closeted with the condemned prisoners during the greator part of the day. Everything indicates beyond a doubt that the govern- ment is determined not to pardon or commate the sen- tences of the unfortunate men, and mtends to make of their execution an imposing demonsiration of firmness ‘and rigor, in order to puta stop to Fenian violence and outrage. Some disorder occurred, and riotous demonstrations were made at the conclusion of the meeting. Whole Farms Devastated Kansas and Missouri—Great Destruction of Property. Sr. Lois, Nov. 22, 1867. Prairie fires still continue to rage in nearly all sections of the West. They have been particularly severe in Western and Northern Missouri and Kansas, in many instances actually begs gine whole farms. Immense amounts of property bave been destroyed. The swamps in Southern Missouri are said to be a mass of fire, avd along the Iilinors Central Railroad, for a distance of oue hundred miles, the prairies are’ burning. The Railroad Disaster at Lock! Particulars of the Accid: Crvemmati, Nov. 2, 1887. Farther particulars of the accident on the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton broad gauge railroad represest the scene presented as horrible in tho extreme. ‘The crash was terrible. The carsof the passenger train were violently jammed into each other. The sleeping car of the ladies was crushed intosmall pieces of timber. One lady had her head cut off her body in jess than a second, and’ another had her entrails com- letely ripped out.
