THE CROPS. REPORTS GENERALLY STILL FAVORABLE. Damage from Rains Through the South. The crop reports throughout the country are gener- ally fattering for an abundant harvest, especially in ‘whea, The Department of Agriculture estimates that the total yield for the States and Territories will be at eas: 200,000,000 bushels, against 180,000,000 bush- els last year. Considerable damage has undoubtedly ‘ben done to the crops throughout ‘the South by the recent heavy rains. First reports, however, are apt to Ve extravagant, and the wheat crop has already been secured in that portion of the country. There is yet time for a good crop of corn South, even it much of it eas to be replanted. The yield of sweet potatoes will also probably be very large. Cotton has been checked, and we fear the yield may not be a large as was gener- ally expected. Extracts from Our Exchanges. ‘The prospect now is that the whole West will this rejoice in abundant harvests. The spring was very ward and wet, and the chronic grumblers were dis- qusted, and, as usual, predicted evil. Spring wheat, which is the great staple fm the region last named, looks splendidly, pr can hardly fall to yield very largely; and the same is true of oats, Corn was consideranly delayed by the coldness of the spring, and a good deal had to be re- lanted, but it is fast making up for lost time, and un- [pa early and heavy frost injures it will yield lendid returns. Fruits of all kinds will be abundant, ven the tender peach, which has hardly had the @ourage to biossom in this and the more Northern regions on this side of the lakes for some ten years, is making @ strong effort to redeem its lost reputation. During the years of 1863, 1864 and 1865, it seemed as if such @ thing as rain was to be for- ever unknown again in Minnesota.
