The music was perfect, one air (the Niagara) being ex- Pressly composed for the occasion, while the officers danced with the inimitable grace that a native only owns, "The dance was suapendot on the arrival of each Sabine officer, and a national air played until the dreseing room was reached, whon {t was again resumed. But the “gem par excellen’e” wae the supper; about one hundred ladies occupied tho rides of two long tables, while between them stood the gay gallants who like sec- ond Ganymedes poured ambrosia and nectar in the shape of champagne and other sparkling}wines, not to the gods, but the goddesses of the foceaxion. Candelebras of wax tapers gleamed a beautiful coft light, toasts and renartees went floating round and many a downcast eye and flitting bingh revealed the spell that then enchained them. Alas! ‘tis over pe with the departing ship, will go many a fend farewell and many a hope that the united embiems of France and America will long biend as har. mon‘ously togethor as they did that night on the Thomis.
