A few days since « captain of the Third precinct re- ceived information that a series of forgeries had been committed upon several down town merchants by a Mr. George Andrews, formerly a merchant in Williamsburg , and cousin to Samoel W. Andrews, proprietor of the Fifth avenue line of stages. As the arrest of the offender was very desirable, the captain placed the matter in the hands of a» detective of his fores, who on Sanday succeded in arresting the alleged forger. Yestorday morning Andrews was taken before Justice Hogan, whore Mr. George R. Lansing, of the firm of William Hertzet & Oo, doing business at 312 Washing ton street, appeared and lodged » complaint against him, Ho charges that on the 2lst ultimo Andrews callod at his place of business and in payment of a debt duo the drm by the prisoner tendered to the bookkeeper a check on the Fulton Bank for $160, of that dato, and purporting to have been signed by 3 W. Fire in Nerteik— Preventive Measures Against the Cholera—Neare Camp Meeting. Fortrest Moxrox, August 4, 1866, During some artillery practice today on the beach ‘FIRM IN NORFOLK. A fire, claimed to have been an incendiary one, oc- curred last evening in Norfolk, corner of Taibot and William streets. Two buildings and their contents were consumed. ‘In one was a concert ball, apd in the other the hall of the Norfolk Light Blues.
