In spite of the threatening appearance vd subsequent Inclemency of the weather and the small number of boats entered for the contest—two of the number receding betore the decisive moment—a goodly Assemblage of spectators procseded to the scene of action to witness the race, — THE CLUB AND INVITED GUESTS ‘Yd been notified to assemble by ten o'c at the foot ‘ot Chr'stopher stroet, North river, where the steamboat Seth Low, a tug of good seagoing qualities and more than average fastness was in readiness to receive them. On the return, the Northwest spit was reached by the Magic at 5 o'clock, 10 m/u., 20 sec, ; by the Calypso at 5 o'clock, 16 min., 45 see., and by the Haze atd o'clock, 30 min., 40 se¢., the Bonita rounding the buoy at 6o’clock, 29’ min. an 18 sec., and the Dream boing 0 onsbrouded in the fog as to make the policy of await ing her appearance rather doubiful, As the Seth Low quitted the Spit the breeze was just dying away, and the return to the atakeboat at the Owl’s Head, nuder a heavy shower, was proportionably slow. The 'Macic eame in ahead at 6 o'clock, 50 min,, 5 see., followed by the Haze at 6 o'clock, 52 min,, 20sec., and the Calypso at 6 o'clock, S4min., 40 sec, At 6 o'clock, 60 min., 55 sec., the Bonita rounded the buoy, and, to the astonishment of all, the Dream appeared ‘at 7 ‘o'clock, 2 min., 10 sec., and, as it subsequently appeared, carried off the prizq by her tmoely arrival. THY RESULT OF THE RACE now only remains to be sammed up, By the allowance of time as published above the Haze will be declared the winner of the prize reserved for the schoonors, while the sloop Dream. will carry off the second plate.
