At the first regular board Hudson River declined 1, Rock Island 34, Fort Wayne 34, Cumberland %. Reading was unchanged. There was an advance of twenty per cent in Pacific Mail scrip, the price rising oight per cent on the call, owing go the consolidation of the Atlantic Mail and Pacifio Mail Steamship Companies. In this negotiation no money has changed hands, but the Pucitic Company are to convey to the trustees of the Atlantic Company one million dollars in full paid up stock, and one million doliars of scrip, with fifty per cent paid up. The dividends on the Adantic portion of the stock will be paid tothe trustees of the latter by the Pacific Company. There will be no conver- sion of the stock of the Atlantic Mait Company, and it will, therefore, continue to be sold separately, four sharos of Atlantic being equal to two of Pacific full stock. 235 was bid for the latter at the board, ‘and Atlantic Mail sold at 150, This arrangement ig not to take effect till the Ist of November. Tho Pacific Company have made a contract for carrying the mails between San Francisco and Honolulu (8. 1), and San Francisco and China for which they are-to receive-im subsidy five hundred thou- sand dollars per annum, and this eastern extension of the fine will take place as goon as the steamers are ready for the service. The Pacific Mail Company have meanwhile ordered an additional twenty-five per cent to be declared Paid to the holders of the four millions of serip issued on the 30th of August last. The scrip transfer books closed to-day, and will reqpen on the 27th inst., on and after wh'ch date new scrip certificates will be delivered upon tho return of the original scrip. The opening prce was 143%, from which there was an advance to 144, followed by a recession o7 % aud a recovery to 144. Worvign exchange has been strong at 100% a 110—the rates askod for long bills by leading drawers, who show n» disposition to relax thelr quotations. Bills at short night aro offered at 110% 4 %. There are very few mer- cantile bills offering, and hence the demand for those dvawn against an export of gold. Monoy continues easy at 5 a6 per cent, witha light demand from the Stock Exchange, The discount line is welt supplied, and commercial paper rates at 7 a 8 and $a 10, according to grade. the adjourned meeting of bank officers to take into considersiton the proposed plan for the redemption of the 'y national bank notes took place to-day at the Charing House, About thirty-five of the members only were present, Mr. Join @ Jones being im tho chair. From this incomplete attendance it would seem that there is considerable indifercnce, if not objection, felt to tho plan among a portion of the Clearing House ‘Banks. However, s committee of nine was appointed to consult with the managers of the banks uproprosented and ascertain their views upon the redomption scheme. The meeting sto reassemble on ‘Tuesaday next to hear the report of the committee, which 4s composed of the following gentlemen :—John Q. Jones, i the Chomical Bank; George 8. Subscriptions to government loan. ‘The total value of imports at Boston for the week end- fing September 15 was $562,228, against $696,646 during tho corresponding week in 1864. Total since January 1, $18,107,579. Average amount por week, $480,394. The total value of exports for the same time, including spe- cir, was $337,280, against $303,528 for the correspond. ing wook in 1864. Over. one hundred thousand dollars in gold was paid for duties on foreign merchandise in the Custom House on Monday. Tho total valne of foreign exports from the port of Baltimore last week wns $258,672. ‘The Boston Traveller of Monday says:— Money was in pretty good demand to-day, and the eupply was about the same as it was last week for loans on call, but rather less abundant ontime, The tendency of the market is towards. diminished ease. Loans on ound collaterals, returnable on demand, are obtained at six por nat im most cases, but all borrowers are not ac- at that rate, Notes of the first class having three or four months to rap are passed in the itrect from seven to nine per cent; but there is very little doing im the lower grade, the rates for which are consile- higher. There seems tobe an increased hk to sell fancy stocks at the edvancod Roe which have ts lately been established for them, but is more @teadinoss in substantial securities. ‘The following comparative statement shows the ave- rage condition of the leading items of the Philadelphia banks for the past and previous weeks: — i Wo learn by a letter of Jate date from Begota and from good authority thatabranch of the Bank of London, Moxico and South America will be very shortly estab- lished in this city. This bank has received concessions of vory valuable and extensive privileges from the gov- ernment of Colombia. The coal trade in Pennsytvania is very active, and strong efforts are being made to keep up, and even to @dvance, the price, although in order, seemingly, to cover over the designs of dealers, the flimsy and trans. parent argument is put forward that it is not the interest of the coal trade to establish high prices, There has been difficulty in some of the mines occasioned by strikes, and ‘the supply in consequence has fallen below the amount shipped last year over a million and a quarter tons, but ‘thone troubles are about ended.
