Since the Congress sunk #0 unexpectedly, after being raised a few days since, efforts’have been unvarying to get her up again. There was this advantage, in the water being more shoal than where she was before, and she not having had time to’ embed herself so deep and fast inthe mud. The coat worn by Colonel Ulric Dahigren at the time he was killed, and which, together with his other apparel and all be had upon his pergon, was stolen and appro- Priated by his ambuscading murderers, has at length been recovered. Sedulous searching and inquiry traced it to the possession of one Charles Davis, a farmer in Mathews county. Lieutenant Chowson, Provost Marshal at Hampton, was commissioned to recover it. Taking the tug General Van Vliet and a pany of soldters ho went to Mathews county. He landed at the farm of a Mr. Weston, when some of the inhabitants in the vicin- ity, seeing the tug approaching, convened to see what was Up. Seven bullets pierced it when he was slain, and tho bullet holes are still visible—meet evidences of the glory of his mar. tyred death. The coat. is to be sent at once to his dis- tinguished father. Iam told that the fact has been ascertained that the man who took the diamond rin, Colonel Dahigren’s finger was killed in battle; that the one who stole his watch met with a similar fate; that the third one, taking the pants and nndorclothing, has been made a hopeless cripple for life, and that the one taking the coat was killed in a home quarrel. Our Bichmond Corrtépondence. Ridaifown, Va., August 8, 1965. WILLIAM AND MARY COLLEGE. There are numerous signa of the gencral and complete revival of tho educational interests of this State. Like all other enlarged and widespread beneficent undertak- ings in Virginia, so flourishing anterior to the war, the sehools and colleges of the commonwealth were well nigh ruined by the four years unromitting march of Mars. The physical property, of itaelf an important item, as distinguished from the good name and fame of the institutions, also vitel elements in any system look- ing to educational success, was for the most part de- stroyod by the several generals who led the Union raids through the various porttons of the State, and the advent of comparative peace, thercfore, found a very general property disorganization of all the public institutions of learning in Virginia. In not a few of them the war had ma.ie sad incursions upon the faculties of instruction, and the boards ‘of corporators and the soil of the dominion {s dotted to-day with the gravestones of many learned meth who departed the collegiate cloister to take up arms for tho destruction of a ment whose very foundations were laid broad and p by their forefathers in religion, science and art, and the kindred outgrowths of human Lar om It is gratifying to note that energetic efforts are alt ly bei made to revive and recuperate the venerable colleges the id but stricken commonwealth, and ere long thon fountains of Intelligence and virtue, William and Mary; the honored univ: of Virginia, & pesel iar orcs of Thomas Yee "s P- }, Sidne: Soong gy emit purer than ever bofore, © reason of the terrible ordeal through which they have been com; to pass, Now onco more shall we have Apollo of eo masciding, over law, the fine and Mara, whose orees, magples everywhere give g Ha dorsey City News, Pagers Oourrsarait Unrrep Sraras Cunnency.—At four @clock yesterday afternoon a well dressed, genteel steamboat aubpan Anxe C., the beloved wife of Gaughter of Margaret and the late John Kilduff, aged 22 years and 20 daughter of WiMiam and Jane months and 21 days.
