Butler broke for the fourth time as he came up the homestretch. Emma seemed to labor a great deal during the beef and did not show the leaat inclination to extend herself, and when oue of her Dackers, at the end of the heat, offered to bet five hundred to one hundred and fifty dollars Hiram Woodruff told him: not to do so, az tho mare was not reliable. The Rev. Mr, Joslyn presided. ‘The exercises consisted of reading the Scriptures, sing- ing‘and prayer, after which Mr. ©. W. Chester, chairman of the Auditing Committee, read the annual report. From this report it would appear that the Home is much in need of funda to meet the increasing expenses of the institution, and, with a view of securing ald, an ‘appeal has been made by the managers to the citizens generally to contrtbute for the support of those friend- ena oreatures who are entirely dependent on public charity, ‘The’ institution was incorporated in 1845, and since that time twelve thousand ras have been furnished with ahome.
