Tho increasing abundance of the supply of money is stimulating speculation on the Stock Exchange after the recent depression, The market is, however, entirely in the hands of the brokers themselves, and, during the summer season especially, the upward movement is hot likely to continue very strong or steady. Loans ut call are made at five per vont, but six is considered the general rate. ‘The tendency is towards the former for all transactions on first class collaterals, The gold market has been, on the whole, firm, not- withstanding the improvement in American securities abroad. There was'a shipment of $511,500 in specie by tho China from Boston, which was not without its effect. The opening quotation was 18744, followed by a decline to 136%, after which there was a steady recovery to 1374, the closing price. Foreign exchange is very firm, and bankers ask 110% in most cases for their sixty days bills, and 110%, but transactions are recorded at 34 less. Mercantile bills are extremely scarce, as tho statistics of our trade would Wad the reader to infor, The exports for the past week aggregated in value only $1,250,702, while the imports were valued at $3,690,539, ‘The business at the Sub-Treasury to-day was as fol- tows;— Recoipts for customs Total receipts Payment Balance...
