The share market opened this morning with a @rodping epirit, and a decline was submitted to, At the first board New York Central fell off Dut rallied before the close of the call, and sold for 134%. Evie started at 102%—a decline of one percent—and Jeft off at’l04 a 10474; Erie prefer- red went down %; Hi dson River declined %%, and Harlem 1; Reading opened at 12234, and closed at 123% bid; Pacific Mail declined 2. Some stocks, however, went up at the first board. Michigan Central advanced %, Southern old 12, Rock Island %, and Pittsburg and Fort Wayne %. At the one ’clock board the market was firmer, and the sales @t the last session of the public board exhibited ooneiderable buoyancy. New York Central sold for 135%, Erie 104%%, Hudson River 127, Reading 3294, Michigan Southern &2, Chicago and North- ‘western 47%, and Cleveland and Pittsburg 106%,— which was an advance, as compared with the sales of the first board, of 144,a2% per cent. At five @’clock Erie was strong at 104% a 104%; New York Central rose to 135% a 4%; Fort Wayne could mot be purchased for less than 85; for Pittsburg 206 was offered and 10624 asked, and for Mlinois Central 11824 was demanded. The money market exhibited more ease this morning; yet there was a lively demand at seven per cent, which was fully met by the supply. The gold market opened to-day with an active @emand, influenced, no doubt, in some degree by ‘the news from Europe, which announced that the banks of England and France had raised the rate NEW YORK HERALD, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER Insurance Company 8F® “a6bed, the capital stock of one pr pest doles having been subscribed. A new coal company has been organised, under the title of the Central Coal Mining and Mapufac- turing Company, with the following Board of Di- rectors, vis:—C. E. Detmold, George Jae, Hoy, Henry Delafel, Gustave Kutter, Thos, Paton, Henry |. Gilbert, Henry Clews.and James Dayton; C. E. Detmolé, President, This compa- ny ie formed under e special charter from the State of Maryland, with unusually liberal frivileges that are esteemed of great value. Its property consiste of about four thousand acres on Georges creek, in the coal field of Alleghany county, Maryland, over one thousand acres of which contain the cele- brated fourteen feet vein of coal in one compact body, being the very centre of the Georges creek coal field. The sudden raising of the rate of interest by the Bank of England seriouely affected all classes of securities in Great Britain, and checked ope- rations in the Liverpool cotton market, English fands immediately became flat, and a serious fall ip foreign securities followed. There is a heavy drain of specie from England, which is no doubt the prime cause of the advance in the rate of dis- count, and the London Times says that the extra- ordinary demand for bullion appears to come from the new cotton countries. The Times of the 3d inst. has the following remarks:— ‘The American supply of ‘cotton being entirely out off, and the rise ip the price enormous, ® great stimulus has naturally been given to the cultivation of this article in India, Rgypt, Brazil and many other countries, to all of which specie must be sent in payment, To the large in- crease in the demand for both silver and gold for India and gold for Egypt attention has repeatedly beeu called, The effect i# seen even in to-day’s operations ot the bank, where £40,000 in bar gold has been withdrawn for tho Contnene— ae pay for silver for India—and 120,000 sovereigns bave also been taken out for Alexan- dria, probably to pay for Fgyptian cotton. ‘This with- drawal of £167,000 in gold has? it is believed, ibuted to the decision at the ‘bank. {it 1# aleo understood that large amounts of gold will be sent by the next outgoing mali to Brazil—anotber pew cotton fleld—whbence the ex- Change comes very unfavorabie for this country. “‘The Bank of France has also increased the rate of interest to six per cent, being no doubt influ- enced by the same cause which prompted the ad- vance by the Bank of England. France, like Great Britain, must now pay gold and silver for cotton, there being no demand for goods in the new cotton growing countries, as was the case in this country, to equalize the trade. There are also other chan- nels through which specie finds an outlet. The expenses of the expedition to Mexico and the Cochin China operations, as well as the demands of the French troops in Rome and Algeria, must allbe met with gold, and these together form a drain which has produced some alarm, The demand for money abroad seems not to be confined entirely to France and England, as most of the continental markets are reported to be similarly affected. A great many investments have been made lately at’ Frankfort and in South Germany by capi- talists in six per cept American bonds. 5 Steck Exchange. Tugspay, Nov. 17—10:30 a.
