FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAI "yaa, Jane 26—6 P.M, There is mo change in money. vearcity in Wall street at6a7 per cent; but the bankers are giving the brokers some trouble by discriminating against non-dividend paying shares. Commercial paper sells at5.a6 per cent. There fe a pretty active inquiry for debt certificates—new Assue. Geld has been inactive, the price hanging about 44% a 14524. Exchange is dull at 157% a 158. The excitement on the Stock Exchange to-day was on Harlem, which was expected to decline on the passage of the resolutions of the Common Council rescinding the grant of the Broadway Rail- way. Instead of declining, however, it advanced, rather to the astonishment of the shorts, After selling last evening at 72, it rose to-day to 97,a difference rarely witnessed in a single day, and a more severe punishment than the bears have suffered for some time. The excitement when the stock was called at the board was very great indeed. On other stocks there was but little movement. Erie and Central were firm. Pacific Mail was 1 per cent down. The Western shares were irregular, Pittsburg, Rock Island and Toledo being rather lower, while Galena was better, being quoted dividend off. Hudson River rose to 138%, selling in the afternoon at 137. It is understood that the company propose to di- vide the surplus on hand before 1st November, so as to exclude the third mortgage (convertible) bondholders trom the benefit of it and reserve the whole sum for the present shareholders. Tlinois Central was lower to-day. The road earned in the third week of June $107,000—the henviest week’s business in the history of the Hne. During the Grst three weeks of June the earnings were $303,791, Against $269,281 in the whole month of June last year. Governments were pretty steady to-day. In te afternoon the market generally was steady, ané at the four P.M. call stoeks were buoyant, the highest prices of the day being bid on all sides. The following were the closing quotations of the day:— US 6's, hp rey.1033¢ 8 108% Hudson River.186 2 136% US6'881,cou 109 910936 Hariem.,..... 97% 7.80 pen 1 &A.106 1063g Harlem pref... — 0102 G's of 1874 100° 9 100% Mich Southern 2K a iid Debt certificts.101 91013 Mich Soguar..116 a Ha American gold 144% a a7 m Central. 210236 a 102% Missouris..... — H Pitts... 8335 . + 92% Cumberland es 18 : tis c 1 9636 Fort Wayne... 66 6% . ms Pra duChien.. 53 — 0178 Terre Haute .. 43 120 91203 Tr Haute pri 9546 a Mie Chick NW 108% a 10236 The advices from Missouri are that the Emanci- pation Convention will probably adopt Governor Gamble’s scheme of abolition, to take effect in 1876, in preference to immediate emancipation, with a term of apprenticeship for the emancipated slaves. Practically, the difference between the two schemes is small, and, so far as the financial interests of the State are concerned, hardly per- ceptible. Slavery can hardly Jast in Missouri until 1876—except as it existed in this State and in New Jersey even a few years since; and, becoming a free State, Missouri will undoubtedly enjoy as good & credit as the other free States of the West. The Btate bonds, which are now selling at 68, with 15 per cent interest due on them, will probably at- tract the attention of the foreign capitalists who are such eager buyers of Ohio, llinois and Indiana Btate bonds. The Michigan Southern Company have declared a dividend of five per cent on the guaranteed stock, payable on the Ist. They have $170,000 on hand, without counting the June and July busi- mess. The interest on the third mortgage bonds of the Harlem Railroad will be paid on and after July 1 at the treasurer's office. The July interest ‘on the first mortgage ten per cent bonds of the Bacramento, Placer and Nevada Railroad Compa- ny of California, less the government tax, will be paid on and after the Ist day of July next by George T. M. Davis, at his office, No. 47 Exchange place, on presentation of the July coupon. We have received the following communication from an officer of the Cumberland Coal Company:— The company have always sent a portion of its products ‘to tide water by the railroad, and are generally one of the heaviest shippers by that route. At the opening of the present, season heavy shipments were made by that ; but tho scarcity of coustwise transportation and Ube high rates ostablished at Baltimore compelled the sompany to reduce its shipments by railroad and send the bulk cf its products by canal, as coastwise transportation gould be more readily and cheaply obtained at Washing ton. ‘The canal bis not been destroyed, nor has it been damaged to any material extent It can be Eis, ie complete order ina fortnight No damage hus done to the property or works of the company. They are prepare’ to resome shipments at an hour's motice. Ever since 1860 the interest on its bonds ‘and the expenses of its business bave beon paid from its degitimate operations.
