PUTTING THE CONTRABANDS AT WORK. A portion of the contrabands at present at the Contra- band Camp ta this city are to be immediately employed in culivating Gen. Lee's estate, at Arlington, aud other abandoned farms m the vicinity of this city in Virginia, for the purpose of raising furage. All of the contrabands who are able to work and not otherwise employed wiil be at once put to work for this purpose. It is estimated that ten thousand tons of forage for the use of the army can be raised this season in this manner with profit, while at tho same tme affording employment to the con- trabands who are thrown upon the govermment {or sup, Port. ATTACK OF WHITE SOLDIERS ON NEGRO RECRUITS. To-day Dr. Seely, of the army, and Dr. Auguste, the re- cently appointed colored surgeon, were employed in ex- amining the nogro volunteers, preparatory to their being mustered into the United States service. Two or three companies are expected to be mustered io immediately. ‘This afternoon, while a portion of thie regiment were marching along near the Old Capitol, without uniforms and unarmed, some soldiers of the Fifth and Fifteenth Pennsylvania reserves made an attegk upon them, throw- ing stones at them and iniiicting some slight wounds. Tho attack was eatirely unprovoked, and was not reseated by the negroes, who behaved with mach more maniiness and propriety than their cowardly assailants.
