The Guns of the Fort Spiked by the French Sailors, &e.. ao, ae. San Francisco, Jan, 26, 1863. ‘The steamer Sonora, from Panama, arrived to-day. She reports that four French war vessels bombarded Acapuico for three days, commencing on the 16th. The fire was returned from the fort, doing some damage. ‘The people abandoned the town, but thirteen Mexicans wore killed. The fort was finally silenced, when one hundred sattors landed and eptked the guns, The fleet then le't. Acaputco is a seaport town of Morice, State of Guer- rero, on the Pacific, 185 miles south-south weat of Mexico, latitude 16 60 north, longitude 99 48 west. The harbor is nearly landlocked, and is one of the best and mort exton- sive inthe world. The town ts dll built and very’ un. bealthy. It formerly ongrossed tho whole trade between the Spauish dominions fm America and those in the East, ‘aud was long famous for boing the resort of the celebrated Manilla galloons. Under the republic its trade greatly dectined till the discovery of the California gold mines, since which it has become the most important port in Mexico, and the privolpal point for the embarkation of passengers betwoou the Atlantic and Pacific ports of the United States. Of tho 256,602 tons of shipping which entered Mexico in 1862-3 131,380 were entered at Aca- prlco, and of the 219 steamers arrived 146 entered at this port, Tho total namber of pasacugers which arrived in Mexico was 43,816, of which 31,242 landed at Aca pulco, and of the 40,153 which left 28,540 embarked at the same port.
