The news from the interior of this State is very inte gpstivg. The death of Governor Guardia has been con- Brmed. He was shot whilo loading a charge at the baitle ‘orRiochico, near Nata. After Guardia foil, Uolenel Fa* ‘rega and bis troops retreated to Santiago in great confu gion. Colonel Fabrega, with the family of Governor Guardia, bis own family and the government officersy @bandoned Santiago de Verngnas, and embarked at the port of Montijo for Central America. It is stated that he gave orders to his soldiers to sack the city and then burn it, Immediately after his departure his own soldiers sacked a great many houses and the churchos, but the @itizens resisted and prevented the burning of the town. On the 24th there was a public meeting for self-defences @nd they clected Sonor Guevarra prefect, who imme- Giately sent for the troops of the provisional government (Governor Diaz's), and requested them to take possession and protect the inlabitams and their property. Colonel Neiva entered Santiago on the 25th without firing a gun, end took possession of the town. He is now engaged in arresting and disarming the soldiers of Guardia, The provisional government has at last published the ooreos of Gen. Mosquera concerning the church property ‘end the clergy. Governor Diaz had three decrees made publio by oando on the 30th ult. ‘The clorgy will all leave on the 9th of this month for the south, and will carry with thom the five nuns of the Panama Couvent, who will go to Lima. ~ All the church property will be immediately sold for the beneBt of the government, and all the priests banish- 4 or imprisonod that will not take the oath to support the government that is robbing their church. Two of the poor old nuns that leave are over eighty years of age, and one of them bas not been outside of the oonvent for sixty years.
