One of the consequences of treating rebel efficers kindly has just been brought to our notice. The facts are as follows:—Colonel Forney and Captain Murphy, of Alaba. ma, and Colonel Williams, of Virginia, were wounded at the battle of Williameburg, and, after being taken pris- ‘oners, they were kindly cared for by our surgeons, and in due time they were releaged on a parole and took one of the best rooms in the Hygeia Hotel. Here, with two colored servants, these officers enaconsed themselves, and at once made themselves familiar with all the in-com ings and ont-goings of our generals and the travelling public. ‘Wearing citizen’s clothing, they were enabled to mingle in society unknown as to their character, and, as it has since beon proved, their designs. ‘These traitors eat at the same table with our brave and loyal oflicers and citizens. Nor wore they evor smnoyed by rude language or looke. With eager ears they listened to the arguments which the newspaper corres. pondents indulge in during the evenings; for be it known that the correspondents roomed in clore proximi- ty to them and each other. In this way these ungrate- ful and vie traitors posted themselves up with ail the important news they desired. Visitors unknown to most of the people have called upon them, aud there is but little doubt they bave carried much of thig juformavion direct to Richmond. A Unien laity, who is quest at the hotel, who had # good opportunity for hearing in.ica of their conversation, profited by it, and furnished the information which probably obtained for then quarters: on the Rip Rape. This lady and her buedand informed us that these ‘‘ noble Southern sous of chivalry,” during one of their convers.tions, said:— ‘In three weeks from this time thie scum will skedaddie from here, and the Confederate 7 cover Fortress Monroe, which will be wor us balf a million of men; and, moreovor, it is the key ty the Sox ” They further stated that they “knew ai the weak points of our lineof defence, and would rout by them.” Que of these villains also stated that ne w he was in Fort Delaware, and despite his wounded arin would lead a revolt which would put them in poss « on of that work. The Blanche Page, when the boilers burst, bad twelve of acrew. The chief engineer, James Jones, was at his post, and it m astonishing how he escaped. ‘The barge Cremorne had an exoursion party on board la bound for the Fishing Banks. The explosion was of a very serious nature. The steward was blown to atoms. Captain William Ellesworth was dangerously in~ jured in the back, and but for the exertions of Joseph. Strand, one of the deck hands, things might have been’ worse. This same Joseph Strand, seeing the explosion, stood by the Blanche Page like @ “ jolly good tar,” ana only left his post after doing all in his power to save alk. he could and the vessel too, After the explosion the Cremorne and all the exeur* sionists were sent to New York. The Blanche Page was. taken from Buttermiik Channel by the Yankee Boy» which towod her to the Paterson dock at Jersey City. Our reporter visited the Blanche Page yesterday, and’ he gives the subjoined description respecting her = She is @ strong river propeller, and is entirely a new doat, having been only about five weeks on the river. Her cabin and other compartments are very well fur. nished, and it was supposed that her steam power wonk& be equal if not superior to any other of her dimensions. Her boilers appear to have been very slenderly put togeth— er, and ar ik enacts with the wheelhouse they were tn’ very dangerous position respecting the hands on board, ‘The paddle bouso and boilers were all blown up, with the kitchen aud ali its uteasild. ‘The cook escaped: amid the ruin in his department. ‘The Blanche Page was buiit in Newburg, and is owned. by D. 8.
