———— FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL. Wepnegpay, June 11—6 P. M. There is nothing new in the money market. ‘Money is quite abundant at 3 a 4 per cent on call. Certificates of indebtedness range from 100% to 100%. Nothing is doing in foreign exchange. Stocks continue active. Atthe morning board ‘to-day prices were somewhat irregular, Govern- ments declined 3¢ per cent on the registered sixes. Btate stocks were steady. The demand for rail- way bonds continues active, and prices steadily eppreciate. The bonds of the Pittsburg, Fort Wayne and Chicago, which deslined 4 per cent this morning, were the only exception to the rule. Among the speculative shares the movement was irregular. Pacific Mail declined 44, guaranteed %, Galena %, Toledo %, and Rock Island 44; while Central and Erie preferred were both % better. Other descriptions were un- changed. Between the boards the market was steady. At the second board there was an im- proved demand for stocks, and nearly all descrip- tions were better, Rock Island rose 1 per cent, Erie 4, Galena 4, Panama}, Harlem preferred 1. The market closed with a very healthy appear- ance. The buying is more general, and more widely distributed than it used to be; there are no large cliques operating for the rise, and no heavy blocks of stocks which are liable to be thrown unexpectedly upon the market. At half-past three the market was quoted firm, the following being the quotations :—United States 6’s, registered, 1881, 103 @ 1033y; do. 6's, coupon, 1881, 106%% a 106%; do. 5’s, 1874, 96%4 a 97; Treasury 7 3-10 per cent, 106.a 106; Tennessee 6's, 60%4 a 60%; Virginia 6's, 5734 @ —; Missouri 25354; American gold, 101% a 10454; fail, 116 116745 New York Central, 924% Erie, 37 ; do, preferred, 66 a 6644; Hodson River, 473% a 0% Harlem, 15% a 16; do. preferred, 39a 3994; Reading, 57 a 5744; Michigan ral, 647% a 65; Michigan Southern and Northern na, 2744 a 2734; do. guaranteed, 58 a 5834; anama, 135 @ 135%; IMinois Central, 65 a 6534; ena and Chicago, 7034 a 7044; Cleveland and oledo, 45% a 45°4; Chicago and Rock Island, 65 3 65%4; Chicago, Burlington and Quincy, 77% ® 7734; Milwaukee and Prairie du Chien, 28 a 28/4; Illinois Central bonds, 7’s, 9534 a 9534. We understand that Mr. Chase has allowed it to transpire that he will shortly offer to all holders of demand notes the privilege of exchanging them for 7 3-10 notes at a given pricé. In consequence ef this demand notes have advanced to-day to 10244 a%%. This premium will doubtless have the fect of drawing them in from the country ata pretty rapid rate. The State of Indiana will pay the Ist of July in. derest in New York on the public debt in gold, The official notice of the Treasurer of Illinois does not specify gold; but, as the taxes for the support of the public debt are collected in gold, the im- pression is that the payments here on lst July will be made by the American Exchange Bank in kind. Ohio has already provided gold for her interest. Massachusetts and New York pay in gold, and we boar nothing to the contrary in reference to Con wecticut or Kentucky. The Cincismati Commercial of Monday publishes the following remarks upon the prospects of the growing crops at the West:— Tnereasing interest is of course felt in al) parts of the ouutry a8 to the eondition of the crops and the prospect- ive yield. Accounts reach a9 of serious damage to the cha In some localities by the Heseian fly; but the avo- of tis much less than usual, and, taking he promice as it now stands, it certainly never was more satisfactory for an abundant yield of all kinds of frnits and graina. The large broadth of land sown this year may in some measure compensate for the loss of a pertion of the crop. ‘The weather during the past.week has been ool and backward. The Boston Post of yesterday thus notices the course of money matters in that city for the last week:— The money market remains without especial change in rates, although the accumulation of capital continucs, and menapes. institutions as well as capitalists ar puzzled to what to do with their surplus funds. The banks are supplying the limited demand at from four to six per cent, according to their customers. Re- Lewals of old notes are generally at six per cent, while on call,on government and otlier first class securitics, from four to five per cent is charged, On the street money is offered in large sums at three per cent. This, however, is im exceptiora! cases. Copper stocks have been steady. is firm, with @ moderate demand at 21 inuesota, Pittsburg, Pewabie, Quincy, franklin and National have been in tair demand ; Central advanced rapidly te 13%. during the week, which bronght out so Tmueh stock that it fell back agai to 1gc. Tho mine is considered by many ag the most promising ove cn the lake. Isle Royale is firm, but inactive. Hancock, it is said, looks promising; Rockland hag declined to 12e. The Chicago Ziibune of Monday remarks : ‘There has been @ steadily increasing acvity in finan. cial and business circles iuriug the week. The paper made seems to have been satisfactory, for very hberal discounts have been made by the babks, and yet their ability to continue to dose docs not seem ‘two be lessened in the least. For the last twoor three days the large demands made upon thew have rendered currency rather ce ; but this is only temporary; for time is only re- ed to convert their surplus exchange on deposit in Xow York into currency to meet every contingency. Orders for this purpese to a large extent have been given, and in the early part of next week we pre. sume ‘the usual relative balance between the supply of currency amd exchange will be restored. Tho larger ‘houses have been selling New York ex- change freely to customers at one-eighth premium, and op round lots concessions from that fizure were some- times obtained. Par was all that could be obtained by sellers at the banks; and on collections and for small par- ceils ty was still the current selling price. Gold was firm at 3a3% buying; selling 33{ a 4 per cont premium. Most transactions were mace at the upper figures. The price in New York was 4 por cent premium. The Cincinnati Gazette of the same day says:— There was only a moderate demand for money on Sa- turday, and the supply continues ample with all the houses. Good paper for short dates finds ready takersat 6 a7 per cent, and longer dates at 8210 percent. Gold was in better demand, and the rates were firmer at 344 a 346 per cent preminin buying, aud 44 943 per cent preudum seilh g. is no change in exchange; the demand was {air at ‘var buying? and 3¢ a 34 premium selling.
