She brought a largo amount of specie, together with one Lundred bales of cotton. She also brought intelligence of the loss of the steamer Jobn Hart in Lake Nicaragua, on the 26th of January, from dragging her anchors ia a gale. The John Hari was sent out by the Nicaragua Trauait Company ostensibly to ren on the lake to do the business of the talked of California passenger trade. She was fourteen years old. Her masier and erew will go home te-day in the steamship Northern Light. If the company really intended to start a@ line in July, as they say, they will not now be able to do it, asa steamer can only get over the rapids into the lake in a high stage of water, which shey wili not have for several months tocome. The wreck of the John Hart was taken charge of by Captain Griffin. The captain, officers and crew have arrived at Aspinwall. There has been but litle from Mexico within tho fast few days. Tho last news received from there represont- ed the Allies as preparing for an advance oa O; Jalapa, This movement was expected to take p! the 20th inst. We hayo had rumors of resistance on the part of the Mexicans, and some even go so far as to gi Getails of a fight between a division composed of six hun- dred Freach and cight hundred Spaniards, in which thy Mexicans were victorious; end 1 have even beea assured that the returned soldiers who have arrived here are not sick, as reported, but wounded. TI do not believe ono tittle of this until T see some indisputable proof of its truth, It is true that General Uraga bas been removed from the command of the Mexican army, and General Zaragoza placed in bis stead, ahd, as the latter is tho ad- vocate of war to the knife, there may be a shadow of reason (or belicving that Juarez meditates resist- ance. It may be a shadow of a reason, but uothing more; for Zaragoza will not act without orders, and Uraga would execute those orders, if hostile, just as well and promptly as any. Uraga, it is said, has been appointed Minister of War; ana if so thero is more reason for believing that peace measures and di plomacy wil! prevail. In the meantime more troops are on their way to Mex- ico. Two battalions of marines—one eight hundred, the other nine hundred strong—bave left for Vera Cruz—one on board tho Freuch frigate L’Astree, the other on board the Spanish steamer Alava.
