At present there are two Jewish congregations in Brookiyn, one called Beth Israel and the other Bethlehom—the former being that which is about to erect the edifice. The congregation comprises about sixty members, who now worship in the upper story of ahouse No. 156 Atlantic street, South Brooklyn. About two o’clock the procession arrived at the ground, and the services were opened with prayer by the Rev. Joel Alexander, the pastor. Rev. Mr. Isaacs, in the absence of Dr. Raphall, from whom a letter of apology for non-attendance was received, made the opening address on the occasion. He alluded to the importance which would regult to the Jews of Brook- lyn from the erection of the ean, and eulogized American institutions, which ed them (the Jews) to worship according to their own ideas of right, without molestation. He was followed E Mr. Julius Corn, the secretary of rd Loewenthal clear through such @ maga of {acongruous securi- ties. Speculators and bankers might make money out of the general confusion, but it i¢ pretty clear that both the government and the public would be losers. So with the fourth proposition, which looks to the hypothecation of United States stocks with banks for temporagy loans. The idea of the bankers is that some time or other they will get Mr, Chase into a tight place, and shave him. It was seriously proposed by some of these bankers some time since to supply the wants of government by a temporary loan of $150,000,000 on the pledge of $300,000,000 in United States sixes, the idea being, of course, that the war would come to an end before the loan had been repaid, and that the bankers would be able to sell their bonds in Europe or here at a figure which would yield them a usurious profit for their money. These bank gentlemen don’t seem to understand even ‘end sickly sentimentality which, under the title of “adaptations,” had 80 perverted the taste of our public. Even the dest of our low comedians has found it ad- wisablo to go with the tile aud to eck in the genial croa, ‘tions of Dickens a flold for the display of his peculiar gifts. All this indicates a disposition on the part of ‘Managers to emancipate themselves from the tramme'g Of the siar system, which has injured their interests by ‘Mocessiiating the constant production of novelties suited “Go the genius of particular actors, and thus rendored ‘them dependent on attractions which can only be pro” ~@ared at prices involving heavy risks. “She Stoops to Conquer’? will be repeated this evening ‘“@t Wallack’s. For tho pre. s@ent hs only announces four performances, two iu’ New ‘York and two in Brooklyn, to come off during this week; government securities must rise. It rests with Congress to determine which event shall oecur. If proper laws are passed to render the ultimate redemption of the Treasury notes secure’ beyond peradventure, no reason for their depreciation will exist, and they will not fall. In this case the ad: vance of the funded stock of the government'to par, and probably to a premium, becomes a mere question of time. The Congressional debate of yesterday onthe Deliberate consideration of the wants of the go- vernment and of the capacities of the country will satisfy Congress that this is the only safe and eco- nomical way of bridging over the present difficulty. It is clear, plain and precise. It renders Mr. Chase’s path smeoth and easy. It relieves the public from anxiety with regard to the public finances.
