ARRIVAL OF CLIPPRR SHIP BUBS4R, HAVING ON SOABD THR MUTINEERS AND THE MURDAEER OF THK SECOND OFFICER OF SHIP STAGHOUND, ‘The clipper ship Hussar, of New Bedford, Captain How- and, arrived last evening from Batavia and Padang, having on board twenty-four prisoners, the mutiueors of ship Staghound, among whom is James-Morris, who, ia ao affray on board, stabbed the second officer, con of Captain Hussey, of the Staghoun’, which terminated in his death after lingering nine days in great agony. He also stabbed the first officer, but the wjuries were slight and he recovered. ‘The Hussar, upon arriving at Quarantine, was boarded by the Harbor Police boat No.9, Cockswain Abm. Vanderzee and oficers Swain, Matthews and Stack, who immediately took possession of the prisoners; and upon achoring of the Battery, the steamtug, Portland, having the vessel in tow; was sent to the city for a reinforcement, when Sergeant Bowers, of the Harbor Police, with a posse of twenty men, proceeded to the vessel, when Capt. Howlané delivered the prisoners. Sergeant Bowers having secured the prisoners, sent them on board the tug, and in a short time they were all safely lodged in the First precinct station house, Ser- geant Bowers is entitled to great credit for his prompt yet humane exertions to transfer the prisoners from their ship prison to the shore, and for the orderly disci- pline exhibited among his men. ‘The prison of the ship is rare curiosity, and should be seca to be approviated. It is situated in the after part of the ship, directly under the cabin, ‘the cabin being flush with the main deck,’ and occupies a space of about thirty feet by twenty, and is composed of three tiers of cells, complete in everything, thoroughly and properly ventilated, and as for cleanliness, hg not surpassed even by the cabin. He states that ho was badly treated during tho passage, as well as the rest of the crew, but always obeyed orders as given by the officers, and gives the following aceount of the unfor- tumate cceurance:—The ship having a cargo of 400 coolies, it was necessary to keep # strict watch upon them, as they, ‘the coolies,’’ would, and in many cases do, rise aud endeavor to takepossession of the vessel, upon finding that they are deceived, which occured upon this oceasion. The Sunday Liquor Law. ‘The retail liquor dealers were mostly all closed last evening throughout the city, but during the day a largo majority kept open. The police in some of the wards fol- lowed up their attacks on all places found open with ro- newed vigor, while in several of the precincts the pro- prietors were only instructed to close up when discovered making too much of an outside show. On Broadway Liquor couid be obiained at any of the saloons. At those places whore only liquors are sold can be found rear oF side entrances to most every place, but at saloons where eatables are kept there is no disposition fade to close up, and customers are respectfully aguested to take seats at tables, where they are furnished with all they wish to drink. At severs! places on Broad- way we noticed any number drinking, visible to all who passed by, and even to the police, amd yet their power, it seems, does not extend over a ealoon where the pro- prietor holds @ tavern license. Entering a large saloon near Houston street, the room was found crowded with Persons, all evidently enjoying themselves over a socia drmk, when presently they were all startled by the an nouncement that the police were outside.
