N Semear, Nov. 13-6 P. M. The following is a comparative statement of the exports (exclusive of epecie) from New York to k and since January 1:— 1869 168 340, rues tie 2a oh sported...» 68,876,219 wana at | 01,025,490 84 040 068 Since Januery 1 965,234,254 This enormons export, which inclades over | Lincolp has irritated the minds of Soutlerne $1,250,000 worth of breadstatis to Great Britain, will account for the unprecedentedy low price of foreign bills, A commercial panic, in view of the above export, so light aa import of foreign goods, as we showed in yeeterday’s papor, ia one of those cnrious anomalies whish puzzle outside observers. The excess of our exports of produce over lust year’s now amounts to over $27,000,000, The money panic coutinues—that is to say, very | shipments of { cotton to the ‘porta in payment of few private capital.sts are willing to buy long pa- per. Bankers ave lending pretty freely, with sofe margins, on cull, upon stocks; and some of the benks are discounting moderately. There is no distress worth mentioning among merchants, *h the exception of one house ia the drug busi we hear of no trouble, But everybody is iting to see what will be the npshot of the present panic, and is willing to let money lie idle for a day in the hope of still higher rates in the course of the week. We hear to-day of a few picces of stwictly frst el: short paper going o hear of sales of paper, than which is made, at 1} percent 2 month, The tis in a condition that no regalar quotations can be given. Some fine morning people witl con eluc at we are not ail going to ruin because the Southerners are going to hold conventions; then paper will rive as quickly as it hae fallen. Zhe exchange market closed very irregular. Most cf the bankers asked 107}, bat the best bil's sold, at second hand, at 107, and a bid of 107 for a iarg¢ amount wontd probably have been accepted by any leading house. Southern bills are coming from New Orleans more freely than they have been; they go at 105} a 106}, with the exception of Charleston bills, which are generally neglected. At these rates specie can be profitably imported from Furope, and should the present panic last we may expect to hear of some remittances. They would inconvenience the London market very con- siderably, and they are not really wanted here. But there is no reasoning with panic, and ‘f people get frightened, and begin to question the standing of our benks, gold will undoubtedly flow from Europe. About $450,000 in gold was sent South to-day, $200,000 of which went to New Orleans, The panic on the Stock Exchange is unabated. New York Central fell to 70 this morning, rallied to 72J, fell back to .70, then rallied again and closed 71g bi gainst 74 at the close yesterday. Erie fell to 26 at the morning board, sold at 27 the afternoon, and closed 28} bid, against 28} yes- terday afternoon. Hudson River declined 2, Har- lem 1}, Reading 2, Michigan Central 1}, Southern 1}, Guaranteed g, Panama 1, Miinois Central 1}, jena 2, Toledo j, Rock Island 4, Burlington 3, Pacific Mail 33. Every one had cash stock for sale, the cause of the stampede being obviously the calling in of demand loans, added to the fright of many holders of stock who are un- certain about the future. It reflects the greatest credit on the Board of Brokers that, notwithstanding the intensity of the panic, and a decline which is without precedent, no one should have failed. The losses incurred by holders of stocks must have been enormous; bat they have been met manfully, and in no instance has any holder songht to take advantage of the panic to default on his contracts. The circumstance, as we said, reflects great credit on the Board, sud not unnatorally recalls other periods of great flactua- tion, when the conduct of the leading operators was very different. At the secoud board to-day the market was rather better on the general railroad list. State stocks, however, fell off; Missouris 2, Ten- es 4 per cent. Between the years 1860 and 1857 the average cotton crop of the United States wos about 3,000,000 bales; average price of middling uplands was about & pound; the average price of negro field ds was $#00 a $1,000; and cotton land wes re- markably cheap. Three to four years ago the de velopement of cotton maunfactnres throug Furope and the United States increased the demand for cotton to such an extent that middling uplands was wanted at J] a 12 cents ia market, and at 74d. a 84. in Liverpool.
