a ees Operatic and Dramatic Matters. There was quite an operatic revival last week. Ass port of forlora hope, Mr, Mulder Fabbri opened the Aca- demy for a night or two, and baz beon 80 successful, both io ap artistic and a pecuniary point of view, as to justify the present management in undertaking an extended sea. ou, which will be commenced after the election, when ‘Mr, Ullman will again appear as the business dircetor. So far as we can judge, the winter season promises very well. The new soprano, Miss Hinckley, is to arrive this ‘week, also Mme, d’Angri, the popular contralto. We presume that amicable arrangements will ve made with some of the Italian artists, ard it will certain- Ty be much better for ail partioy—ihe singers as well a8 the public—if there is only one troupe. The operatic public do not wish to be bothered with a « divided duty,” and when there is an opposition our people are ppt to let the Opera slide altogether. Last week we bad a fair performance of ‘Robert le Diable,"’ aud a very ex- cellent one of “Martha.” Ia both these operas Madame Fabbri and Signor Stigelli particularly distinguished themselves, Formes was careless in Bertrand, one of his Dest roles, but made up for afl previous short comings to Plunkett, waich be rendered admirably. For this evening we are to bave the “ Fvguenots,” in which Fabbri, Fanny Natali, Madame Maretzek, Stigolli and Formes sing the princtpal rics. On dit, that this opera ‘will be represented on Weduesday, when the present sea goa will be concluded, the new season to open on the 19th November, The first concert of the season was given by Miss Car. Jotta Patti, at Dodworth’s rooms,on Thursday evening. Mise Patti made her debut ‘in the concert room and do- Tighted her auditors with the purity and freshness of her voice, as well as the precision and facility of her execution. She was assisted by Madame Colson, Madame Strakosch, Signor! Briguoli, Ferri and Susini; snd, as might baye been expected from so excellent an artistic combination, the concert was one of the most agrecable that has ever been given here within our recoilection. On to-morrow cvening there will be, at Niblo’s Garden, 8 musical and dramatic entertainment in aid of the Widow od Orphan Fund of the New York Fire Department. Among tbe artists who will assist are Madame Anos Bishop, Mrs. Westervelt, Mrs, Mozart, Messrs. Miranda, Budotphsen, ©. J. Hopkins, @ Simpeon and ©. A Gul motte, The plays to be performed are, “All that Glit- ters is not Gold,” and “Sudden Thoughts.’’ Altogether, tbe programme is a very attractive one, and the exer” ‘Lions of the artiste will result in a handsome addition to the fund. The expenditures from the Fund for charitable objdcta last yoar were $20,990 The calls for aid are very Sumerous—three hundred and twenty families of de- (eased firemen needing conetant asviatance, and winter 43 coming on. Could anything be added to this state- ment, except the natural sequence of a large contribu- Bion? In the theatrical world the eveute of the week have ‘Deen the production of Mr, Watts Phillips’ drama, “The Dead Heart,’ at Niblo’s Garden,.and the performance of “Hoory VIL,” with Mies Cushman as Queen Katharine. ‘The “Dead Heart” is an effective drama, but Is rather too heavy for our audiencs. The manner in which it was acted ‘was not calculated to make it much lighter. Misa Cush- man’s Queen Katharine is well known as one of the est, if mot the very best, of the distinguished artist's creations. There has been nothing new at the other the- tres, Tho Old Bowery bas passed into the hatds of Messrs, Spaulding and Rogers, who will shortly open it as acireus, The dramstic season closed on laet Saturday swith a bevefit to Mr. MH. Jorden. Mise Victoria, a magi- ciénne from Paris, has given several performances at the French theatre. Miss Victoria is a pretty woman, and a ratber clever eleight of bauu performer, Without doabt phe will do excellently woil in the provinces, where ahe As going. For this week we are to bave quite a Shaksporian re- vival. Mr. Ferrest plays Othello to night at Niblo’s, ‘and Miss Cushman appears as Lady Macbeth at the Win- ter Garden. Both pisces will probably be performed Beveral times, and the lovers of the great master of Eag- lish dramatic poetry will have a fue opportunity to see two of his finest creations well delineated. Miss Laura Keene has in preparation Charles Reade’s version of Moliere’s ‘“Malade Imaginaire,’”’ aod also “The Beggar's Opera,’ the latter to Introduce Misses Melvin and Willoughby, who mre sald to be very clever singing actresses. ‘‘Aileon Aroon”’ wiil be given at this house to-night. Mr. Wallack (8 doing eo fine a businew with Brougham’s comedy “Playing with Fire,” that he wil! not change his Dill at preeeut. The theatre is full every night, and the Attraction of the play increases with each succeeding per- formance. At Barnum’s Museum they have a new piece ready to pat on in place of “‘Joreph and bis Brethren,” but the lat ter, although it bas been played one bundred times, is Still #0 attractive that it wil! not be taken off from the bills at present. At the New Bowery a fresh drama, called ‘Rose El- mer,’’ written for this theatre by Mr. J. F. Poole, will be Produced this evening. The pantomime called “Raoul” ‘Wil also be performed. Thore is to be a grand perform. ‘ance here to morrow night for the benefit of the G. L. Fox Guard. Bryeote’ Mivstreis put out a fine programme for next week. The performances wind up with the immortal Diate,’’ the most popular musical composition of the @ay. Hooley & Campbell bring out “Gumbo Jum,’’ a fa mous Ethiopian farce. ‘The Italian Artistic Society, under the direction of Sig- Bor Muzio, loaves to day for a brief tour of concerts ta the principal cities of the West. The Opera seasou ia Ph ila- delphia will commence on the 19th of November. Siguor ‘Muzio haa exgaged the theatres ia Philadelphia, Boston, Charleston, New Orleans, Cincinnati and St. Louis for operatic cutertaiaments.
