MOVEMENTS OF THE PRINCE OF WALES, we THE VISIT TO GASPE. THE TRIP UP THE SAGUENAY. Grand Preparations at Quebec for His Reception, Ben Quansc, August 17, 1560. The Prince of Wales* squadron, composed of the Hero, Ariadne and Flying Fish, left Charlottetown on Saturday afternoon, passed the Straits of Northumberland during ‘the night, and sighted the Canadian shores at noon on Sunday. Towards evening the ships passed Bonaventure and Pierce Islands, the latter completely tunnelled by the ea. Tne weather was fino and the sea calm, and the magnificent ecenery showed toa great advantage, The Shores in some places were lined with wheat fields and studded with cottages, backed by high mountains; ta others jagged clifia rose directly from the sea, All along the coast the inhabitants fired salutes as the vessels passed. * The squadron entered Gaspe bay ai sunset, and met the Canadian government steamers Lady Head and Victoria, w.th the Governor General on board, and the vessels an} chored for the night. The Governor went on board the Hero on Monday morning, and the squadron proceeded into Gaspe basin. While passing a fishing village, which Gred a salute, the Hero grounded on a spit, but was got off with litte delay. A deputation came off, headed by the Sheriff, and presented an address, welcoming the Prince, Gnd requesting a free port to be established there to be called Port Albert. The Prince replied that he felt grati- Ged for their kind wishes, but the change of name de- pended oa the local authorities. It is understood the ‘Change will be made, ‘The Canadian Ministers then went aboard the Prince's Ship, and were presented. At one o'clock, the equadron foft the bay, and going out, a man fell over board from he Hero, but was speedily picked up. Cape Gaspe was roaded at about four o'clock. Shortly | after, Cape Rosier lighthouse was seen, when a thick fog came on lasting two hours. The ships s2parated, but got together again about ten the next morning, when the Squadron was under St. Ann’s mountain. Towards noon, one of the bearings on the Ariadne got heated, aud a new one bad to be made, and it wag ten o'clock at night ‘before she was got under steam again. She passed Farther ‘Point at all epeed at two A. M., and overtook the rest of ‘Che equadron off the mouth of the Sagvenay at balf-past bight o'clock a. M. In entering the Saguenay river the Hero grounded on the bar; but by moving"ber guns at, and the aseistauce of the Ariadne, sbe was got off with little damag> ‘The Prince then went on the Victoria and pe seeded up the Sagunay, accompanied by the little steamer Tadau- sac, the fect remaining outside. The day was very Bhowery and cold, but the Pricce and party admired the wild grandeur of the scenery very much. He went up forty-five miles, passed Cape Chenrity and returned, reaching the Hero about nightfall. Among the novel sights was the lake steamer Magnet, whose two tiers of cabins above deck excited surprise among the Prince's party. Thursday was cold but fine. The Prince went up the Geguenay egain on a fisbing excursion and landed ten milea from the mouth, where tents were erected and the party enjoyed themselves in (ishing and shooting In the afternoen the party ascended the St. Marguerite river in birch canoes, the Prince, paddled by two French Canadians, leading the way. The Flying Fish, with most of the officers of the squadron, aleo went up the Sague- bay. As se passed the tents she fired a royal salate and the effect ameng the precipices and rocks was sublime. Among the incidents of the day was the introducing of Mr. Georgs McBeth, with, pavitation to the Prince toa ball at Loadon, C. W. She wes the daughter of exGovernor Wickliffe, of Kentucky, and sister to Mre. Yulee, the wife of the Senator from Florida, and also to Mre. The three sisters have been much admired for their personal loveliness and manners, wince their first residence in Washington, when their father wes Postmaster General; and the decease of Mrs. Holt, though not unexpected, is more sensibly felt ou account of the long association of the family with our metropolitan life. The remains of this beatiful and accomplished woman were borne at half- past three o'clock today to the Baltimore and Obio Railroad, enroute to the home of her father in Kentucky. ‘The funeral services were attended by the President and heads of departments, the Judges of the courts and other public functionaries, and a large concourse of mourning friends.
