The following is a comparative statement of the exports (exclusive of specie) from New York to foreign ports for the week and since January 1 1859, For the week dence of the large producing capacity of the coum try. The heaviest items of export incladed in the above are breadstatf, of which the shipment to Liverpool was large, and cotton, which has been go at 4a 4}, We hear of occasional transac- tions at the latter figure; but there is so very Lite first class sbort paper in the market that the rate can hardly be ssid to be re-establish- ed. Ap effort was made to-day to use the foreign rise in aid of higher rates, but it failed, simply be- cause no one seems to want any money. The Sub- Treasury receipts to-day were $207,421, of which $40,000 was from customs; the payments, $346,018; | balance this evening, $6,887,153. A fair business was done to-day in sterling bills and bills on Paris; the market was stimulated by the news from Europe. The current rates for bankers’ bills are mamintained, viz :—100{ for ster- ling, and 5.1244 13{ for francs. We hear of very tew commercial bills in the market; a few sales took place to-day at 109) @ } for bills on London, drawn by well established houses. The steamers which sail on Saturday, which are the Adriatic and the Edinburg, will take out a large shipment of specie, The following are the last quotations of sight ex- thange on New York at the eities mentioned, the quotations being in all cases for gold:— par, The bears on the Stock Exchange this morning availed themselves of the news of the renewal of hostilities in Sicily to sell quite a large amount of stocks for the fall. There has not been so vigorous a demonstration in our market for some time; and, combined with the skilfal efforts made to depress Pacific Mail by bold offers of stock and exaggerated tales respecting the overissue, it had its effect. Pa- cific Mail was sold down to 864, New York Central to S1j, Rock Island to 69}, and other siocks to corresponding figures. At the close of the morning session, however, the market rallied, and, after quitean animated session in the afternoon’ closed steady at a moderate advance. The prices of yesterday, however, were not regained. As compared with the closing quotations of yesterday, New York Central showed, at the close to-day, a decline of 3, Pacific Mail }, Prie j, Rock Island 3, Galena }, Toledo }, Panama }, Michigan Central 4. The only Western stock which held its own was Michigan Southern, old and guaranteed. State stocks were rather inactive, but without change in prices. Among the bonds we note a sale of Hudson River firsts at 107; these bonds have @ shorter period to run than the second mortgage, and bear the same interest.
