The report proved to Be well founded, and was re by parties who saw the two leave together. 1 appears that some months minee, Survey was observed by Paullin to be too inti- mate with his daughter, and for that reason ke discharged kim, alter which, it was supposed that the intimacy had exaned. ‘That the affair was preconcerted, and had been for some time arranged, there can be no'doubt. On Tuesduy might Louisa proposed to @ lady in the city (with whos» family abe had been accustomed to sometimes pase the pight), to pay her a visit and pass Wednesday night. The lady proposed Thursday instead, but Louisa objected, aud preferred the former night, the reason of which will be apparent. On Wednesday morning, then, she arrayed herself in twe suits of underclothing, and left her father’s house for that in which she was to sleep. She had, meantime, imparted her projected elopement to a conti: Gant, as Servey had also to a friend of his. She passed the uight at the house of the lady, and in the morning left, saying that she intended to go out home. She re paired, owever, to the steamer, where she was to meet Servey. She bad with her asmail bag, in which were a wumber of toys, dolls, &c., which she had brought from home, ostensibly to amuse herself with. Mistaking the ‘Taurspay, Nov. 17, 1859. Money is quite abundant, notwithstanding the with- drawal of some conservative capitalists from the market. At six per cent good paper is very readily done, and the brokers are amply supplied at five. The dulness in Dbusinees and financial circles encourages the belie! that we shall have an easy money market throughout the winter, especially as it seems to be again the dosiga of the banks to provoke over importations by excessive aud unwarranted expansion. ‘The foreign exchange market opens with considerable dulness: the leading drawers are asking 110 for sterling bills, and 5.123¢ a 6.13, for francs. The two steamers which sail on Saturday fer Europe—the Vanderbilt and the Gity of Baltimore—will probably take less than an average shipment of specie. The free supply of cotton bills is enabling the foreign bankers to cover their drafts without disturbing our bank reserve. One house re- ceived yesterday, by a gitigle mail from the South, bills to the amount of £100,000 sterling. The course of the domestic exchanges is shown by the following table of the price of sight bills on New York at the cities mentioned :— 34 premium. “« “ “ “10 « Cincinnati. No explanation can be given to this extraordinary movement. A love match it-can scarce! be called: girl is rather inexplicably infatuated wit ‘a fellow who, entirely unworthy of her, has induced her to forget her duty to ber parents, and iake a atep which she vo doubt deeply regrots before this. It is not impro- bable that some of the passengers will recognise the girl, and, surmising the condition of affairs, send her back from Acapulco or Panama by the return boat. As there ig vo connecting steamer at Aspinwall for New Orleans, they cannot reach any other port than New York, if not separated on the passage down. ‘The Illinois and Wisconsin bank notes are not readily converte’ inte coin or exchange. The banks of those States farnish almost all the currency in circulation west of Indiana. They are opposed on principle to redeem their iesues, and the brokers of Chicago are in fayor high rates of exchange, as it enables them to realize two or three times the legal rates of interest. By loaning to their customers on short time Western currency, and making them pay back in New York funds, they derive 20 to 30 per cent interest, instead of 10, which the law al- lows. The banks only redeem at the tail end of a tedious chancery suit; but as their issues are ‘stock secured,’ they are considered ultimately good, and ‘consequently pass freely. The Stock Exchange was quieter to-day, and ite general tone dull.
