8 Political Intelligence. ‘Dacenanow or Mr. Taursoy —The Daily News says:—We averecetwed the copy of a letter addressed by Edward ‘Timpson, Fsq., the democratic candidate for Clerk of the ‘Courtof Appeals, to the Hon. T. G. Alvord, President of the gonvention, declining the nomination. Mr. Timpson fully revognizes the proceedings of the regular Convention, and declines only in consequence of his indigposition to divide ‘the democratic vote, and his aversion to accept any oillce whatever. ‘Tar Rowpyisw mv Tas Dewocrano State CoxvEvnioy.— ‘The Syracuse Standard, a republican journal, pitches into Fernando Wood as the instigator of the disgraceful pro- evedings enacted in the Democratic State Conveation im that city. Itsays— T has been the practice for years for the New York poli- cians to bring rowdies here to overawe and bully demo- eratic Conventions; and no faction is exempt from the dis- se which attaches to such conduct. The lesson taught the occurrenees of Wednesday will probably have the edectto check this outrageous practice, At all events itis oubtful if Wood will bo caught in another scrape of this Kind. Hie has done nothing of late which has iajured him go much in the estimation of decent maombers of his own tices may 0.2 politician no damage in Party ciate, but tey will not be sanctioned ia the “rural districts. 2 ‘Wana Convestioy iv Norru Carouna.—The Whig Execu- tive Committee, appointed by the whig members of the Jast Legislature of North Carolina, will meet in Raleigh en the 24th inst,, to fix upon the time and place for the meeting of the Whig State Convention. ‘PeaveuuuNG Stomp Oxitors.—Hon. Stephen A. Douglas, with Abram Lincoln, of Minois, on his track, and Gover- ner Chase, of Ohio, Gen. James Shields, of Minnesota, Hon, Schuyler Colfax, of Indiana, and Hon. Galusha A, Grow, of Pennsylvania, are travelling about the country making stump speeches wherever they can get an audi- ence. Axommen Ticker.—The Fayette (Alabama) Democra; hoists the names of Daniel S. Dickinson, of New York, for President, and Clement C. Clay, Jr., of Alabama, for Vice President. ‘Wut, Tury Do Ir?—Several of the American C&hven- ons in the western counties called to send delegates to the New York State Convention, have passed resolutions im favor of nominating a straight American ticket. So in ‘Westchester and several eastern counties. Mup.—The Charleston Mercury says we have shown that Mr. Douglas is not exactly a New England John Han- eock or Samuel Adams, in an identity of principles or of wtegrity in upholding them. His misrepresentation of facts goes through the whole tissue of his argumentation, to give color w his absurd doctrine of squatter sove- reignty. City Intelligence. ‘Unrren Starss Marsnar Rynpers Posrep—Mr. Srecnan Iwoignast—A Row in Prospect.—A handbill modestly headed ‘a card’’ was posted in different parts of the city between Saturday night and yesterday morning, and at- waeted considerable notice. In the body of the docu. ‘ment the name of Isaiah Rynders appeared in prominent ebaracters, while upon perusal the denunciation of that gentleman assumed terrific proportions; and all this was ever the signature of Mr. Andrew Sheehan, well known ag an active politician in and about Tammany, and re- serial be “up” in the ‘manly art.’’ It appears that Parties were at the recent democratic jubilee at Sy- racuse where the Albany Regency men created such a terrible riot, and that Mr. Shechan’s ire is excited in view of some remarks said to have been made by Mr. Rynders @uring the Convention, attributing to Mr. Sheehan a par- ‘ticipation in the row—on behalf of the Mozart Hall men. ‘The “card,” therefore, is intended to disabuse the public mind of any possible impression that Mr. Shechan is a bosom friend of Mr. Rynders, or that Mr. Rynders’ al- edged remarks were exactly the thing. The terms in which these objects are aimed at are unmistakeable, pre- cise, emphatic, and to the point, so that should the document meet Mr. Rynders’ eye, he will not have the slightest difficulty in knowing exactly what Mr. Shechan thinks of him, Mr. Sheehan's opinion of his life, claims on the democratic party, manner of ob- taining the office of Marshal, courage, honesty and other points of interest. On all these topics Mr. Sheehan’s card ‘was lucid and perspieuous, and the idea that “‘words were ‘meant to conceal ideas” is completely demolished—as by the way it is feared one or the other of the parties im question will be, should they chance to meet. Copies ef this terrible manifesto were posted in the Park and a number of other prominent places—though notin Tammany or the Pewter Mug—and were read in silence by crowds who gatuered around them. The more timid looked anxiously over their shoulders, as if expect- ‘ing Mr. Sheehan to step up and vindicate the truth of the ard, and few ventured to make any remark on so bel- Iigerent atopic. Meanwhile a strict watch of the bellige- rents will be kept by interested friends. Tax Cry Arrek me Sroru.—New York city never Jooked brighter, nor the atmosphere seemed more pure than it did yesterday. The streets were washed perfectly clean by the storm of the preceding thirty-six hourg, and the sun shone forth in refulgent rays, while a clear afd un- ruffled sky all combined to make things look cheerful. During the day Broadway was crowded with fashionably @ressed people, and the arrivals by steamboat and rail- road of business men and pleasure seekers gave one an impressive idea of the growing condition of the metropolis of the country. In almost any branch of business at present there is an unusual activity displayed which cai Rot but conduce to the benetit of our merchants, trade men and mechanics. Sueer Cizantva Sramsmics.—During the week ending Saturday, Sept. 17, there were 11,292 loads of dirt, ma- pure and ashes removed from the streets, under the di- rection of City Inspector Delavan, at a cost to the city of $4,043 85 34.
