The Diario de la Marina then publishes a lengthy ex- tract from Miramon’s manifesto, the pith of which may be expressed in a few words, viz.:—“To remedy the evils arising from the bad administration of the laws, and to possess himself of the wealth of the churchy”’ The Diario dela Marina’s article concludes with the observation that “the difficulty was the little confidence which insp! ‘Mexican govern ment.”’ The African slave trade 1s flourishing amazingly. Caprcre OF ALLEGED CoUNTERFEIERS.—As policeman Fitzmaurice of the Second precinct was passing through Maiden lane yesterday forenoon be espied a well known character named Jobn Snooks loitering around the corner of Little Greene street. The movements of Snooks were suspicious, and the officer determined to watch him cloeely. Stationing bimeelf a short distance off the officer perceived a companion of Suooks coming out of Liberty etreet with something in his hand, which, at a distance, resembled bank bills, id which he handed over to Snooks. The idea at once occurred to Fitz: maurice tbat the two men were counterfeiters, ond he watched them more closely then ever. In return for the money received, Soooks handed bis accomplice a dill, and the two parted company. The accomplice entercd the etationer’s store, No. 14 Maiden jane, while Speoks croseed the street and entered a hall- ‘way, apparently as if he intended waiting there for some one,’ Thinking it was time to pounce upon the fellows, the cflicer proceeded to take care of Snooks first, and, plscing him in the custody of some citizens, quietly crossed the sti to see how the accomplice .was getting on. On ontering the stationer’s store, Fitzmau- rice pretended that he too wanted to buy somo stationery.
