A lawyer named D. W. Perley, formerly a partner of Chef Justice Terry, tent a challenge four or fiva deya ogo to Senator Broderick, which the latter declined ac- ceptng. The cause of the quarrel arose out of some re- marks made before the Administration State Convention by Judge Terry, in which he attacked Broderick in no measured terms. Terry was @ candisate for reuomina- tion, buy did rot eueceed. It was after hie defoat that ~ the Chief Justice, with other unsuccessfal asptrants, by inviation dehvered the speech to which Broderick ob- jected. Perley and Broderick live at the International Hotel, in this city, and met subsequently at the bresk- fast table. Broderick said to @ friend thet Terry sbould not have attacked him in the Convention, as when he (ferry) was in troable, he (Broderick) had acted the part of a friend and did nim good service, This remark had reference to the time when Jadge Terry was a prisouor in the hands of the Vigilance Committee; and Broderick adced, in sub- stence, that if Terry had recelyed bis deserts ha would have been hung, tike otbers atthe time.
