In accordance with the wish of the jury, the Court then adjourned till this morning at 10 o’¢lock. THE DEATH OF MIKE WALSH. Conelusion of the Coroner's investigation— Verdiet of the Jury. The inquest In the case of Mike Walsh was resumed yes- terday forepoon, at the Sixteenth precinct station house, by Coroner O'Keefe. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, there was a large attendance of deccased’s friends, who locked ferward to the reauit of the inquisition with decp interest. The testimony elicited yesterday threw but little additional light upon the mystery which surrounds the fate of deceased; still the jury were inclined to the belief that violonce had been resorted to, and accordingly, when the case was gubmitted to them for their consideration, they rendered a verdict to that efluct. Among the witnesses examined yesterday were Tom Hyor and George Wilkes. Their testimony, together with other interesting matter, will be found annexed. ‘The Jury assembled at ten o'clock, when the examina- tion of Mr, Wilkes was proceeded with, as follows:— George Wilkes, being duly sworn, says—I saw Mr. Walsh at five o'clock on Wedncsday afternoon, but being in a hurry to keep an appointment to dine with Senator Broderick and John B, Haskin st the Metropolitan Hotel, Tonly bad an opportunity to say a few words and pro- mised to gee him again in tho evening; after ‘passing the evening with Mr. Broderick I returned up town, and on reaching the Hone House I entered with the expectation of seeing Mr. Waish; it was then rly twelve o'clock; Mr. Walsh was there ongaged {ff conversation with some other gentlemen; these gentlemef were Me. Richelieu, Mr. Henry Felter, Mr. Haley and a policeman named Joho ‘Smith; ex-Alderman Wilson and Mr. Mulligan were not thero; Mr, Walsh was ia a genial, cheerful humor, and he amused us ali 59 much by his conversation that we stayed listening to bit until near two o'clock; we then left, Mr, Richelieu, Mr. Smith, Mr. Walsh and myself going out to gether: Mr. Richeliou, Mr. Wale aud myseif weat up Broad- way together on our road bome; Mr. Richelieu left us at Fourth street; Mr, Walsh tried to persuade him to go on furtner with us, remarking that the night was so very bright and beautifal; Mr. R, declined, saying it was late, that he was tired and wanted to get home; Walsh and I then went on together, not stopping at any place until we got to Astor piaco, where we parted, that being the place where my road turaed off for home; Mr. Walsn bad been drinking somewhat, but not as much as wo cause him to knock against mo in walking; his mind was ciear, and © ho was under good self-control; he bade me good night at parting, and started off in ‘his usual direction of going homo; ho was capricious, however, ia the geleotion of his route; his cout was open when be left mo; I think he had his wateh oa, but 1 cauuot recollect with, certainty; 1 did not notice whather ho bad a ring or not; I knew he wore no breastpin, for I directed my attea: {ion to that fact, In consequencs of having missed his pin from his bosom for eeveral weeks; had it beca there I tly would have seen it: it was an cmerald pin, with a f. band of diamonds runuing across it; [ gave it to him whea we were together n Paris in 185; he wae in a sutficiently cloar state of mind und under gooil self-control to go safely e. Robert A. Knapp, of 228 West Seventeenth street, de- pored as follows—{ heard the cry of murder throe times, joud, and was awakened thereby; I don’t know from whom the cry originated; after that I’saw two men going dowa Seventeenth strect from the Fignth avenue, watking quite fast; they stopped und looked up the strect, and then went off; this Waz afler one o'clock, and may have been between three and four o'clock; one of the men was dressed in black, aud wore a black coat and black hat; the other bad on a giszed cap; the ory came from stad Pighth avenue, near this strect; tho men looked up towards the Fighth avenue, and then walked off fuster than before: I lay awake for haif an hour afterwards, and then slept unti! soven o'clock. George Duntap, doing duly sworn, says-—I reside at 186 Kighth avenue; between two and theres o'clock T heard @ noise, and at iret thonght it was something falling from the top of house; after that | heard prices say, “Come out of that, damp your soul;” [live in the upper part of the house where Mr. Watsh’s romaius were found; was between sicoping and waking when I heard the noise, which was like a crash; immediately after it came, [ heard the worde ‘Damn your soul, come out of that; Iwas in bed in the front room, over she store; { did bot hear any persons ron away from the piace; about an hour after that it was morning, and the people were rene: d in the strect. ‘Thomas Byes belng duly sworn, deposed as follows—T reside at Ficrence’s Hotel, Broadway; I saw decoased be- tween ten and eleven o'clock on Wednesday night; I jefe him at the Hono Hone, in company with Mr, Wilkes, be- tween one and two o'clock; be had his watcn and chain on; Tdid not notice bis ring; his coat was open aud his chain was banging from his yest pocket; he had not been drinking much: was steady: Ihave often seen him more the worse for liquor than he was that night; [did not see him after that: T was informed of his death the next morning; it must have been two o'clock when { teft him. Jeremiah Haley, residing at No. § Besex stroct, aeposea that ho met Mr. Waish at the Fone House, in Beowdway, on Weancaday afternoon, and saw him there again in evening; from the Floae House we went to the New York Hotel for the parpose of secing Mc. Breckinridge, bat he ‘Whe not at home; from there we went to Lafayette Hall, and then back to'the Hono House, where T lett him; 1 think it was between twelve and one o'clock when parted; deceased had oo his watchand chain, but I don't know whether he e his ring or not; deceased knew what he was about; he had not drank enough to have st noticed; when I left him nis coat was unbattoned; I saw him take out bis watch to seo what time it was. Henry D. Felter, being duly sworn, deposed that he lived at 75 West Twenty-sixth street; Tmet Me, Waish ot Lafayette Hall, ana went with him from thero to the Hone House; I remained in Lis company until between one ana two o’¢ ook; I did not notice his watch or finger ring. Stewart J. Smith, of No. 267 Elizabeth street, sworn, says—I loft deceased, in company with Mr. Wilkes, about two o'clock on Thureday morning; they went wp Broadway and I weat down; deceased was able to take care of him- self; I did not eee him after that, Catharine Walsh, wife of the doceased, deposed—That she resided at No. 208 West Twenty-first street; on Wod- neaday I left home with my husband and provecded with him as far as Broadway, where we parted company; he ‘had on his watch, but no ring or breastpin; I did not see him alive after that.
