A YOUNG MAN STAMBED IN WEST BROADWAY IN BROAD DAYLIGHT—RSOAPR OF THE MURDERER, Yesterday afterpoon, between three and four o'clock, avother murder occurred iu the Fifth ward, the result of ‘2 barroom quarrel, the deceased receiving three serious @iabs in the breast and back, death ensuing before the enfortupate young man reached the hospital. The de- erased, whose name is Said to be Christopher Callaghan, aliss Goff, was a young man about twenty-two or three years of age, who resided at No. 43 Thomas street, well known among a certain class of rowiies who congre- gate in that neighborhood. He had been during the af- fernoon drinking with several of his acquaintances, and about three o'clock met two or three more of his com- anions in the liquor store corner of West Broadway and Anthony street, kept by John Purcelis. An active demand prevailed at all the yards to-day for good quality beef cattle, which were more pir they bave been for some time past. The receipts have off about 400 head, which fact, together with the improved quality and increased activity in the market, enabled brokers to obtain fully haif a cent a pound advance on last week's rates,on the average. Prime extra cattle were held last week at 1c. a 10)g¢., and thoee of to-day sold for about the same prices.
