Our advices by the Vanderbilt give us the meagre fact of the destruction by fire, at Bremerhaven, of the fine new steamship Hudson, of the New York and Bremen direct line. No further particulars are given in the tele- graphic despatch which announced the news to the Lon- don papers. The Hudson was a first class, large iron steamer, aud had made but one trip between this city aud Bremen. She sailed from Bremen September 11, and arrived here on the 26th, Sheveft here October 9, and must have been ‘burned on the 3d inet. The line has only been running since June last, aud was to consist of four steamers, of which but three had been built, including the Hudsou. ‘The Hudson was named after our own noble river, She was built at Jarrow, near the mouth of the river Tyne, im ‘we north of Jand, and finished shortly before she left for this port. We believe her mate is still on the stocks. ‘The Hu was 3,000 tons rogister, 345 feet over all in length, and 318 feet length of keel, width of bear 40 feet, ‘aopth of bold 38 feet. She hed hinge engines, fully | proportionate to her size, with 741 horse po! 2,609 indicated horse power; she had eight farnaces to cach boiler, and four niet, Her cylinder was six inches more than that of the Ley * beibg ninety inches in ass diameter. Her screw shaft was sixteen inches in diameter, nd 125 feet in length. She was bark rigged, and had the credit of being capable of making thirteen knots an hour. She had good accommodations for 620 passengers, besides. « crew of 130 men. The first cabin could accommodate 70, econd 100, and third 450. The second dass saloon, immediately below, also quite comfortavle. The third clase pasnenger berths arc forward, and the dormitories of the crew are around the engines. «She was woll guayJod avamet lire, and bad plenty of life boats and buoys, In erteror ap- pearance ehe bore a beautitul symmetry ® her lines, Which added mach to her mafestic appearance. She had a long overhanging prow, with a short bowrprit and no figur Hor masts wore Jarge and heavy, and ber screw of the mewest model. Her trip to his port was from Bremen in about fourteen days and five hours, through heavy gales and a hurricane, which cbliged her to stop ber'engines for eight hours. She brought 104 pas sengers und 400 tous of cargo. She was to have left Bremen for New York on the Saturday following her de struction, and is supposed to have had a large portion of hor eargo on board.
