We note a sale of New York Gas Company's stock—a highly lucrative property—at 161, ex dividend, For the speculative stocks the market opened heavily. There was an absence of the orders which the brokers have had for the past ten days, and there was no difficulty in running through the two calls of stocks within the time, The general opinion among the brokers is, however, favorable to a revival at no distant day of the speculation which appeared to have set in ton days ago. ‘This opinion gained strength from the fact that before the board ad- journed an advance in prices took place which lasted throughout the afternoon. New York Central, upon which (he bulls bave laid themselves out, and where earnings for the early days of this month are said to have been large, opened this morning at the lowest price current yesterday, At the board it advanced an eighth, and rose afterwards 34 a 3g. Michigan Southern guaran teed, which ig the favorite speculative stock at the present time, rose two per cent to-day, closing strong at the ad- vance. Reading was very quiet and neglected. Rock Island was more active than usual to-day; it opened at yesterday’s price, but rose 14¢ per cent before the close of the day’s transactions. Galena was quiet and steady. Pacifle Mail was steady all day at Saturday's prices. ‘There was no change of note in the other speculatives. ‘The market, after the second board, was very strong, and exhibited a rising tendency.
