Central at 75; Pennsylvania Central, second mortgage, at 92, and Erie shares at 17 8 19—Deing the business done on the 13th. ‘The stock market opened this morning rather dull, but Before the eud of the first call a sudden impulse wa given to speculation, and prices improved, The news by the Prince Albert, which arrived shortly afterward, tended to still further strengthen the market, and quite fn advance in many stocks took place. Panama ‘end Pacific Mail, as usual of late, led the advance. The former rove 14; per cent above Saturday’s price, with frce buyers for cash at the advance. Pacific Mail rose 2 per cent, the bears coming in at the top of the market and offering their options, but very moderately, Illinois Sentral advanced % per cent, the bonds also rising 3; wear 300 shares were taken up, and more bid for, pre- sumably on British account. The next greatest advance was in La Crosse, of which the shares rose 1%, and the fand grant bonds % per cent—it is supposed, in conse quence of the fair reports which are received of the pro- gress of the road. Reading advanced %, with sales of ever 3,000 shares, mostly for cash; New York Central, ; Bric, 4; Galena, 4%; Rock Island, 34; Toledo, 34; Michi gan Southern, \. Michigan Central and Southern pre- ferred, were steady, The only sale of bank stocks was eleven shares of the Bank of America at last quotation. ‘The State stock and bond market were quiet, with few @ransactions. ‘The market closed very strong in “the morning, and after the board a further advance took place. At the afternoon board the advance of the morning was Gully sustained, and a further advance realized in New York Central ,and one or two other stocks. Central touched 7934, but receded afterwards to 78%; Pacific Mail improved \ per cent; Rock Island was 4 better; La Grosse 1 per cent better.
