M. The further intelligence from Europe, dated Lon- don this day, and transmitted by Atlantic telegraph, enables the public to jadge of the stapendons conse quences which will flow from the new treaty with China. The Chinese empire is thrown open to all nations. Henceforth all that immense and amazing- ly populous region which lea in the interior of China will be as free to foreign vessels and foreign merchandise as Liverpool or Havre. It is not likely that at first there will be much foreign merchandise sent to China, from the simple reason that travel Jers represent the Chinese as needing nothing which foreigners can supply. But a few woollens and cottons, and some machinery, could be placed almost fa any large interior city ef China; and but a very brief space will elapse before inter course with the foreign world will develope want among the Chinese which foremrners will only be too happy to satisfy. No country is better adapted for a full developement of our railroad, telegraph and steamboat system than China. At presemt, the trade of the foreign civilized world witt @hina roughly estimated at sixty millions a year, consiate of an exchange of silver on the one baud, against tea, silks, merchandise, &c., onthe other. Now, this traffic will become a more legitimate interchange of products, and Europe and the United States will cease to be drained of silver for the benefit of the Chinese. By the arrivai of the Cunarder’s mails from Bos- ton, we have afew items in addition to our tele- graphic summary. Erie was lower this morning by a quarter per cent. Centra! held its own, with large sales. The Western rail way stocks were generally steady at yesterday after- noon’s prices. Michigan Central was 1 per cent bet- ter, aud Southern 4; Milwankie and Mississippi, under the influence of favorable news regarding the finances of the concern, improved 2} per cent. Reading opened at yesterday's price, but closed on the second call j lower. Advices from Philadelphia state that the week’s business was only 97,500 tons, against 42,200 by the canal. It would seem, also, from the memorandum publish” ed by the company, that while the revenue is declining, the expenses this year are four per cent higher than last. The business in bank stocks wasa fair average: American Exchange is j higher than last sale. There Is no change to re- port in State securities, which are dull but steady. La Crosse land grants continue to improve, and are quoted one per cent higher than was the price yes- terday.- The Board, before adjourning, appointed a committee to negotiate with the directors of the Atlantic Telegraph, with a view to obtain the Lon- don markets of thie day on the opening of the first board. Great dissatisfaction is created by the un- acconntable unwillingness of the company to mak« public reports of the foreign markets and of the Movements in consolsand money. A couple of lines a day would be liberally paid for, and, besides ea tisfying the public, would relieve the directors from unchsritable suspicions now afloat. The market closed firm, and was higher, though without much business at the second board. The Western railways were all a shade higher; but there was no activity in any of them but Cleveland and Toledo. The closing bids at Groesbeck’s were: for Central, 799; Erie, 177; Reading, 49}; Michigan Cen’ tral, 583; Southern, 244; Panama, 114; Galena, 833; Toledo, 35; Rock Island, 73}; Pacific Mail, 88, &c., &c. The market closed steady, the bears making no effort worth mentioning to resist the upward ten- dency of prices. The exchanges at the Bank Clearing House this morning were $13,636,946 03, and the balances $871,093 10. The Metropolitan certificates are $3,000.
