MONEY MARKET. Sarurpay, Jane 19—6 P. M. The stock market was quite buoyant at the first board to day. Better priocs ruled, with « more active bosiners. The sellers continue to operate freely, and put out time coatracie, their owe option, st prices considerably below the cast points. The movement to day was pretty gene ral, and in some stocks the improvement was important: Missouri State eixes advanced ‘, per cem; Harlem second mortgage bonds, 34; La Crosse land grant bonds, %; De- laware and Hudson, 1; New York Central Raliroad, 4 Erie, 1{; Reading, 1; Michigan Southern, old, \;; do. pre- ferred, 1}; Panama, 1; Galena and Chicago, 2; Clevelaud and Toledo, 34; Chicago and Rook Island, i; La Crosse and Milwaukie, X%. Pacific Mail Company declined percent, Some very curious operations wore made in Reading this morning. While the cash stock was sell- ing at 45 per cent, contracts on time, seller 60 days, could not be put out over 43 per cent, and one sale on these terms was made at 424; percent. This shows a temporary scarcity of stock, and also shows the determi- pation of certain parties to keep out short tines, s0 as to be in when the declipe takes place, on an expose of the financial condition of the concern. The stock is’ by all odds the hightest on the list, in view of its future unproductivences. The advance in Galeva and Chicago thie morning was quite large, but « showed weakness at the close, and sold at lower prices. The operations in Chicago and Rock Isiand for several days pest have been particularly large, but prices do not vary much from day to day. The Ostober dividend, whish the stockbolders felt eo sure of a few days since, is now very uncertain without some outside finaaciering. It cer- tainly would be the wisest course to pass it, and piace their finances tp a condition to meet the wants of next winter. The Chicago Democrat says that a dividend ip A\ gust on Galena and Chicago i# totally out of the question. It will be seen by our reported rales to-day that city rail- road stocks are in demand at high prices. Sixth Avenue Railroad sold this morning at 115 per cent, and Third Ave- nue Railroad at 108 per cent. The Ove per cent somi an pual payment om the Sixth Avenue stock ie due in about forty days, The Inat sale of the Second Avenue Railroad ‘was 92 per cont, and Fighth Avenue Railroad is held at ‘140 per cent. Ia Crosse land grant bonds have ad- vanced two per cent within the past two days. ‘The Augurt coupons, we are assured, will be promptly paid, and the early completion of the road t> La Crosse is sufficient guaranty for ali future payments. The pub- Le mind labors under a strange celusion in regard to this company anc the recent legislative investigation. There is no more connection between the two than between ihe two poles. The company have in to way been interferod ‘With, and cannot be touched inany way, The investiga tion was, from beginning to ond,» political matter, nod the result only affected parties whose connection with the La Crosse road bad jong before terminatei. There was po intention from the beginning t> the end, on the part of the | ogisiatare, to take any courre calculated to obstruc: the progress and operations ot the railroad company, and i po part of the investigation was there a contrary dis- position shown. The road is going forward rapidly, aod ae roon an ite position and prospects are foliy compre. bended, and the absurd prejudices now entertained re- moved, the secarities of the company must command prices that will compare favorably with those’ of aay other Western railroad. At the second board the market wae better throughout. ‘Therg was ap active business in New York Central st an advatce of % pet cent. Ia Crosse innd grant bonds ad vanced %% per cent; Delaware and Hndaom, 1; Erie, \; Had son Railroad, 34; Micbigan Southers, old, 4; Valens and Chicago, x. At the clowe the tendency was upward. This inflation cannot be more than a spasmodic move- ment. The shorts bave done more to bring about this advance in prices than any other influence, and at the proper time they will let the market down again, perhaps lower than it bas touched for weeks. ‘The transactions si the Clearing House to day were as follows :-— excl iiss Sub-Troasury ofa draft by « young man named Ferguson, on which Mr. Collector Sohell’s name was forged for $760, is not oor. rectly stated. From that time to January last there had been paid to holders of stock, in dividends, $8025 upon each share. ‘There had aleo been used from the net profits of the road, in payment of the company’s debts, $111,878 24, leaving & surplus not divided of $32,618 88. Had the whole of the netearaings been divided stockholders would have received during the whole time six per cent per annum pop the original cost of their stock. E.R.
