Meeting in Baltimore in Favor of the Le compton Constitution, BALTiMonE, Feb. 26, 1858, Active preparations are being made in this city fora areat meeting in favor of the admission of Kansas into the Umon with the Lecompton constitution; thus sealing the approval of our citizens on the plans and policy of Mr. Bu- ebunan with regard tothe Kansas agitation. The day or place for the meeting is not yet agreed upon; but it will ome Off some time next week. T herewith enclose you a list of the names of those who ave signed the callfor the meeting. Much excitement prevails in tbe city on account of the opposition of some ef oor prominent men to the movement; the number, however, is very small. {t is understood that tne Post- marr wud Unied States Attorney, Messrs. Morris and AdGiaon, refuse to unite in the mecting, ana the revocation by the President of their appointments is confidently pre- dictad; indeed already a number of gentlemen have been ‘sb4gonted as their successors. Sevators Toombs, Fitch and Hunter, it is said, are to address the meeting. Rewarks.—Tne list referred to by our correspondent contains the names of the leading merchants ‘and other prominent men in Baltimore, but it is too long for publi- cation in our columns. Administration Meeting at New Rochelle. TUM PRESIDENT AND THE LECOMPTON CONSTITU- TION AUSTAINED—SPERCHES OF T. W. M’MAHON AND ROBERT J. WILDR—RRSOLUTIONS, ENTH( SLASM AND A LITTLE OPPOSITION, BTO. Pursuant to an advertised call, a comparative’ large meeting of the citizens of New Rochelle was held in the Town Hall, op Friday evening, for the purpose of endors- fmg the present policy of the administrasion with revard to Kaveas affairs. An attempt was made bya few indi- vidvals inimical to the objects of the call to thwart the meting by chosing different officers than those agreed vpen. But upon a threat of the national democracy to orgavize outside, Mr. Thaddeus Davids was chosen chair- man and elected with their approbation. Tho disor- ganize-s insisted upon having a committee of five top pare resolutions, instead of accepting those alreudy pre- pared, apd to quict them the following committee was ap- ted, Stats Barton, Wm. Lawton, John Adamson, Robt. Coles and Cyrus Lawton, who retired for deliberation. SPERCH OF T. W. M’MATON. Mr. Tnos, W. McManow being loudly calied for, was in- troduced to the meeting ani received with manifesta- tions of applause. He commenced by modestly attri- buting the reception to the principles which he represent ad je challenged any man to ve a record of a bad law which, by accident caactel, had been repealed, which was not repealed by the intellect, the republican, the humanitarian principles of democracy. (Cheers.) These principles were not s or circumscribed, bat wide and grand as the continent upon which they were uigated.’ (Cheers.) For one, he would not eet up opinion as contradictory to the ?resicent cf that de- mocracy, in standing as it stood by the side of tac hal- lowed wage of Monticello; and no matter whether such eppomtion camo from Iinoia or Weat chester county, he enuld not foilow ruch anexample while professing to be- Jong to the democratic party, (Applause ) He stuck to ibe party and the President, rot for tho pisy er or ibe man, but for the President, the re- presentative of democratic principles; decause he knew Bo sectionaliem, no sufficient expediency, but marched ve, the guardian of the great princivle that this republic sali be preserved intact and inviotate, (Applause.) Willingly would he staad upon the poli.y of the Lewmp- Woo constitution, and accept tha ixsue of higgeriara, alave' ¥ or no slavery, which had alwars been agitating the coun. ‘ey, and sbould at once be settied. The principle of slave- ry was seitled by the ordinance of 1787; the agitation of 1819 was similar to the Kansas agitation. Then camo the compromise of 1860, wher Danie! Webster had raised his voice in favor of the repeal of the ordinanco of 1820 and °91. Then came the Kansas- Nebraska act; and og: S374 had the question of the admission of Kansas under the Le- tempton constitution It was thus the question of slavery ‘which agitated the people, and it was simply a quostion whether they should, notwishstanding their 88 in riculture, io arta and sciences, resign all for the benefit the nigger? For hirrself be had little faith in the ethics of the Tritune or of Beecher’s church, or their philan- thropies, witb the condition of the Island of Jamaica as a specimen of their practical wae never a demand made State, to remove <A indians, ae, our glory and prosperity, or to wage war agland, fae wa wet opposed by these New Eaglaad philosophers who now asked them to violaie all law and order and #ubm t to the rule of Jim lane. He chaiienged any man to point tv the day when James Buchaoan ected in an un- marly, anti pationai or anti patriotic manner; for he was with any sectional tribe, clique or party ever Connected subversive of the constitution. (Cheers it, against tbe war of 1812, the admission of Call ia, the pur- chase of Louisiana and Florida, or the removal of the de- posits, the same party which now opposed them had siwaye been opposed, and for eighty years had continued their office seeking, office beeing advocacy of prin- ciples subversive of liberty and the constitution, The democratic pany. did pot include a blasphemer of the Redeemer ike jore Parker, an advocate of free love like Stephen Pearl Andrews or Wendell Phillips, who need the Union an immorality. (Applanse.) Be asked them to respect the names of those patriotic ttateamen, the representatives of the party, who had been bold in the expression of their opinions on the great ques- ens of the day, and had carried this Union through to fe prevent prosperity. They were asked now to violate al! principles of law and justice, and ask to ac. cept a consti‘ution of the Topekaites, as required by a few men who refused to vote at the elections in Kausas Terrivory, and to reject the Lecymptou constitution which hat been presented according to due form of law. What would be +aid if the democrats of New York, after Mayor ‘Wood had been legislated out of office by oppo- pevte, and after having failed to re-elect him because go tothe polls and resogaiso an illega’ at would be said of those gentiemen if, after the biack republican candidate, Mayor Tiemann. we clected, they sbonld insist that Mayor Wood should take bis seat? This was precisely a «ilar cose to that now presented by the free Sate men of Kaneas in opposing the Lecompton constita tion (Applause.) It was idie to say that slavery would de fastened upon by the L»compton constitution im enite of the people. It was in the power of the people tw alter the constitution at will. The same priaciples of confidence in our republic, which were the very lifeapring of our national existence. were the great permeating prin- ciples of the democratic party and of {ts representative, the Presid of the United States, James Buchaaan. (Cheers ‘or Mr. Buchanan and Mr. MeMahon. ) There being now loud cries for a song, Mr. Kernicay, of Now York, #as introduced, and favored the compaay ‘vith one of bis original national airs, which was received with immense satisfaction, SPEECH OF ROBT. T. WILDE. Mr. Rot. T. Wirpe was loudly called for, and wax introduced by the Chairman amid much apple He wald he wished to reconcile the discordant elements which be krew were tp the gathering before him. He prerumed they were all democrats who had assisted to elect Mr Buchanan, and be cautioned them not t> play into the hands of the biack republicans, by desiring or working for a postponement of this Kansas question. (Applaure.) It was time that this Kansas was Fettled; it Ought to give way to other and more important questions, and to secure that end it was necessary ‘ endorse the administration of James Buchanan. — If they were democrats it was their duty to gurtain the President in the present crisis. Perhavs they were a little crotchety. Terbape some were hesitating ‘and bolding back, im doubt as to what would be the re- sult’ But there wae po doubt the administration bad be eu endorsed everywhere, and in New York, it appeared by toe HekaLo—whieh he considered very good authority = that there coald only one thousand men be got into the Chinese Assembly Rooms to oppose the policy of the ad- a It was a smal! number for the city of New York. He believed that ifthe managers of that affair had beon wrapped up and covered over with dust, like the Rey ptian mummies they would have attracted « greater crowd just double the pumner. ( and applause ) question for them now to consider was, would they fas- tain the admipistration of James Bachanan? (Cries of “Yes, yee’) In conclasion, he boped they would weigh wel! the great subject preseuted for their coasideration, | w calm y consider the necessities of tais imminent crisis. The dove, he had no doubt they would come to the coo clasion to endorse the policy of the administration on the Lecem pton constitution, and prove themselves true na- tenai democrats (Applause, and cheers for James Bu- chanav’s administration. ) THE RESOLUTIONS. The Committee on Resolutions now retarned, aad it soon Became t that the dworgaaizers intended to try and bave tl! seting endorse sentiments altogether in op- pouition to the spirit of tbe call. A long squabble ensued, ‘avd an attempt was male w get the bogus resoiutions pat ‘frat. ‘The regularly prepared resolutions were, howover, sub- mitted, as follows: Resoived, That the democracy of New Rochelle, West. chester county, in public mecting assembled, are prepared pow and at ail times to sustain democratic principles and ‘constitutional rights, and to declare its adherence to the pohey of the t National adminiatration. Again, when under sentence of death, his brother emuggied a file and some other weapon in a piece of roast eet, threugh the iron gate of the prison, aod past the turnkey, but the plan of escape which the folon and an- other arranged, was defeated by the vigilance of the keeper. So time wore on. Kreppel was kept doubly chained, and on the 19th ult. the death penalty was meted out to him. The New Orleans Picayune thue no‘ices tho execution: —Antoine Kreppel, at half-past tev o’clock this morning, had his bre stopped by a hempen agent of the law. He diea within the walls of the parish prisop, after an in- voluntary fall of a few feet, in tho presence of about two do: on ©’ his fellow mortals, who watched with curious interest the expression of nis face prior to the terrible pluuge into the abyes of death, and the convulsive twitch- | of his muscles afterwards. it is no pleasant sight to witness a human execution, yet the penalties ot laws must be enforced ss long as the injunctions of laws are disregarded, and we do not feel called upen to indulge in any extra sent mentaliem on such occasions. A short time before the execution the doomed map and his brother had a last, sad interview. Sobs and coafused words of parting, and a feeble attempt to vindicate his conduct on the part of the feion, formed the chief features of the meeting. The brother was then forced away, though he begged to be permitted to remain The ex- ressions of the murderer were exceedingly confused and Iubbering, and indicated a villanously low statare, both intellectually and morally. Indeed, the murder be com- mitted was a most beastly performance, and he has since manifested no redeeming qualities. The death warrant was read by Deputy Sheriff Seix. echnaidre after the victim had taken his seat on the fatal platform. There was @ continued movement of the doomed man’s lips, but no word was uttered that any one could hear. After the reading was ended, the cap waa drawn over the felon’s eyes, and he kept moving one of his feet, as if beating time to his own dead march. At length the signal was given—a rope was cut by the exe- cutioner--the platform fell, and after a few convulsive arm, when turned in other struggles all was over. ss ‘Weekty Report of Deaths baehrg o> oe county of New York, from the 20th day of Fe y wo the 27th day of February, 1853.
