The City Judge and the Recorder are its presiding officers, and they occu- Py the bench alternately. Stnce the adoption of the new charter, which came into effect on the firet of May, thie court bas been greatly relieved of a large number of petit larceny and assanit and battery charges, the majority of which are now disposed of in the Special Sessions, still, accused parties have the privilege of electing to be tried at the General Sessions. If thie court was relieved of all such cases a desirable reform would be effected, for now much valuable time is consumed by hearing triffing com- plaints which are beneath the dignity of a court where so much important criminal busine « has to be transacted a 80 short 4 e of time. ARREST OF AN ALLEGED GANG OF COUNTERPEITERS AND SEIZURE OF BOGUS MONEY. On Wednesday night information was received at the Deputy Superintendent’s office that an extensive gang of countorfeiters were at work circulating spurious “fives”? on the Onondaga Bank of Syracuse. Arrangements were immediately*made to break up the gang and stop the cir- culation of the bogus bills. The matter was placed in the hands of detectives Wildey, Pool, Robb and Baldwin, and immediate steps were taken to secure the guilty parties. The policemen proceeded to the house of a man named Joseph Lane, residing at the gorner of Flushing avenue and Oxford street, East Brookf¥n, where they made four arrests and seized upon a lot of counterfeit bills on the bank in question. Lane, his wife, Honora, Oakley Beemer, Isaac H. Cook and Thomas Bowers were found on the pre- mises and were made prisoners.
