At the iret board every stock on the list sold at lower prices, and were offered freely at our quotations. Illinois Con- tral bonds fell off 34 per ceut; Delaware and Hudson, 1{; Canton Company, %; Now Yor Central Railroad, i; Readirg Railroad, 3g; Michigan Southern, 4%; Michigan Central, 4; Cleveland and Pittsburg, %{; Cleveland and Toledo, 34; Chicago and Rock Isiand, \{; Galena and Chi- cago, 14. The market was unusually active, and the bears put ont on contrast a good deal of stock. New York Central, Frie, Reading, Cleveland and Toledo, and Mich{- gan Southern were sold in large iots at the decline in prices. The growing stringency in tho moucy market is bringing out the cash stock, and thoee obliged te ell are im many instances buying on tine, their own option, £0 as to carry it over the most stringent period. Many bigh priced stocks are comirg upon the market in large quan- titles, such as Delaware ani Hudson, Galena and Chicago, and Pennsylyania Coal. These stocks are seldom sold in large lote. The sales of New York Central Railroad are daily increasing, and tho market price is daily decreasing. ‘Two smatl lots of La Crosse and Mil- waukie sold this morning at a decline on yester- day’s prices. It was reported this morving by telo- graph from Madison, Wisconeio, that the Governor had vetoed the bill passed by the Legislature, granting the public Jands to the La Crosee and Milwaukie Railroad Com peony. We undereiand that this was expected, and we now learn that the bill will become a law without the Governor's signature, or that it will be amended so as to meet the Governor’s approval. Tbe difficulty is im not making Madison a point for the terminus of the road as well as Columbus. The La Croase and Milwaukie Compa- ny have no objection to this, and the bill will probably be altered #0 as to suit the Madison interest. We notice sales to-day of Mad River and Lake Erie Rallroad stock at 140143 percent. This is one of the North aud South railroads of Ohio, and is a competitor of the Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati, The stock is owned principsl- ly in Boston, and tLe probability is that it will stay there. ‘The attempt to put it on this market wili probably bo as succestful as that recently made to saddle Wall street with Long Island. Hudson River Railroad sold at 29 per cent. We believe this is a little advance on the last sale. As the next ecasion of the Legislaure approaches, reports of consolidating this road with the New York Central are cireulated, for the purpose of operating on the market value of the stock. After the adjournment of the board the following sales of stocks and bonds were made at auction:— $5,000 Ohio 6’ $4,000 Indiana 5’ 10 ebares American ress Co, 214 do, Pelaware an Hudson ‘Ganai Co. 24 do. Macon and Wostern Railroad. A. H. Nicolay’s regular somi-weekly auction sala of stocks and bonds will take place to morrow, at haif-past 12 o’clock, at the Merchants’ Exchango, At the second board the market was very flat. There ‘were small trapractions in all the leading railroad stocks, and the tendency at the close was downward, There were no buyers in the street, except for delivery on ma turing contracts, and the sellers for cash are principally those who are receiving stock on matured time contracts. Speculation for a rise is out of the question, ‘The steamship Canada, from Boston for Liverpool, to-day, carried out $593,677, in specie. The sum of $392,700 was sent on yesterday from this city, of which $10,000 was for Boston, $24,000 for Halifax, and $358,700 for Liverpool. ‘The balance of the shipments by the Canada was made up tn Boston. All the Western roads show a large business. Judge Clerke to day decided the motion for a receiver of the Nicaragua Company, denyirg the motion. The opinion which he gave amount to very little. The gronnd taken and on which the motion is decided appears to ve that the Court will not interfere until the trial. Tt is true there ie & good deal said about usurpation and all thet, but this eppeare to us wide of the mark. We presume ‘that the courts ot this country have nothing to do with tho question of usurpation or no usurpation, but must de- cide upon the single fact whether Rivas bad control of the government of Nicaragua or not. The trial comes off next Monday, having been postponed to that day. as ie usual in tee courts, when one of the partios asks for it, and the trial, no doubt, will settle the matier, because tn a decision thore the Judge can exercise no ditcreticn; — ‘Tho London Times of September 24 says:— The Of gold at Paris is abont 6 per mille pro miom, and the short exchange on London is 26.45 per £1 eteriing.
