A new ular movement like that which is destined to mace mont tenant of the White House, was presumed to be ‘ital and useful as wo dispense with old blood and old egement. Le Fremont and P eke | be the ticket, REX, Nuw Yorx, Sept. 20, 1 Quarantine at Sandy Hook. TO THE EDITOR OF THR HBKALD. Sanpy Hoox, Sept. 30, 1856. At this moment, when every thivking man foels an in- terest in the sanitary laws of New York, Brooklyn, and our neighboring country, I bave visited this celebrated neck of land, for my own fatisfaction; nor is it my first visit to the region. The United States manifested great wisdom and pru- dence in selling Sandy Hook to the State of New York for quarantive purposes. What spot can unite such un- paralleled advantages for such an object? Here is a sandy neck of land, from five to six miles long, the Atlan tic on one side, ‘and tne immense Raritan, or lower bay, on the other. ‘It is uninhabited and unoccupied, excep: by the lighthouses; and, what is of greater tmportance for the Quarantine, it will be com pletely insulated. Thr fovernment coraitioned in the sale of the property that it sbali be used only for quarantine purposes. Here no tiickly settled town can grow up around it, as is now the case on Staten Island, ‘What location has such favorable advantages? Nature seems to have formed the spot for this important object. Look at in only—distant 5,000 miles from Europe, more than 20 from our great city, 12 from Long and Staten Islands, ard 5 from New Jersey. As far a3 our sister State of New Jersey is concerned, the Qaarantine wil! be more remote from her borders than its now. This can be proved from ocular demonstration, if any one will only use bis eyes, for he wiil see the hospitals on Staten Island; and the sickly vessels, ‘ riding out their quaran tine,” ‘as it is called, are nearer to Bergen Point and that section of Jersey than if both were placed at Sandy Hook. It is equally true that every Jerseyman coming to New York through the Narrows, is more exposed to the atmos. phere of the floating pest vessels at Staten isiand than he would be if the hospitals were located at Sandy Hook. At this mcment he ia exposed during sueh a trip on every hband—tbe hospitals on Staten Isian«, the sicklyvessels at anchor, on one side; whilst the epidemic 18 epreading from Fort Hamilton on the other, Thos is he in bis pas. sege from Monmouth by water surrounded by yellow fever. ls not this plain and true? When the subject is right; retood, who does not see that the citizens of Sew Jersey, from Moomouth, will be more protected from infection and the prevailing epidemic by the removal of the hor pitals to Sandy Hook ’—the epot which the hand of the Almighty ecems graciously to have designed for this important object. “ADVERTISEMENTS RENEWED EVERY DAY.
