At the date of our circular advices per Cauada, on the ‘1st instant, our cotton market presented a firm aspect, with an upward tendency to prices. Although no actual advance is established this week, selection ia getting more limited, and where particular qualities have been required, rates have been paid tocontorm. The trade have purchased fully up to the large consumption now im progress; but the freedom with which holders cou- tinue to meet the demand deters them from increasing their stock, and this feature also influences speculators in contiting their operations until future developements are more clearly defined. Money matters are somewhat unsett'ed, and discounts cannot be effected balew the mivimum Bank charge of 43; per ceat. The most — brillia weather, however, imparts con fidence in all branches of ‘commerce, aad confirms the hope of increased trade in the manufacturin; districts, should the grain crops—which have made rapi Progress towards maturity—be secured in good order, and of which the prospects are very cheering. (ur stock of cotton bas probably attained the maximum figures of the year, and as it diminishes, fresh vigor will doubtless be irfused into the daily transactions, particularly if any well authenticated reports should reach us adverse to the forthcoming yield. The market closes tamely to-day, with estimated sales of 6,000 bales, 1,000 specu! 4 exporters. The total sales of the week amount to 53,509 bales, of which $8,320 are American. Our grain markets can scarcely be said to be panic ttruck, but it is so uselees to force sales of any article under the feeling prevailing, that it is impossible to say what terms would be complied with, the extreme heat causing damage to most parcels between the date of con tract and delivery, and creating much dissatizfas tion and annoyance.
