6 NEW YORK HERALD, TUESDAY, JULY 29, 1856. Sr Eg I gy NE NE ENE ES ae ERC = Pee em ERP ERE T on ora FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL, MONEY MARKET. Monpay, July 28—6 P. M. We have no improvement to report in the stock Market, but on the contrary a further decline in Prices. At the first board New York Central Rail- Toad fell off 4 per cent; Michigan Central, }; Pana- tas, 4; Cleveland and Toledo, j; La Crosse and Milwaukie, {; Canton Company, }. Nicaragua Transit advanced 4 per cent, and Illinois Central Railroad 4. There was not so much activity as at the close of last week, but there is more stock press- ing for sale, and not so many buyers. Sellers are putting out time contracts freely. There has been no material change in the money market. The banks continue to call in demand loans, but private bankers furnish all the supplies required. There is no inguiry for money which bas not been freely met, and no apprehensions are entertained of an immediate stringency, even under -an activ shipment of specie. The Cunard steamer from Bos- ton this week will not take out a very large amoun of specie, and there will be no heavy shipment from this port until the Persia sails, which will be on ‘Wednesday next week. She will take out, without @oubt, the largest shipment of the season. The de pression in railroad stocks has not touched, and probably will not reach railroad bonds. There ar mone on the market pressing for sale, and price ‘are well sustained. The salea to-day were con- fined to Illinois Centrals and Erie third mortgage. After the adjournment of the board, the following sales of bonds and stocks were made at auction by A. HL Nicolay:— $50,0C0 Rochester City Sixes, 1873,....,[Int. added, 94 12/000 New York and New Haven K. 63, 1875. do. 77 9,060 Cleveland and Pittsburg RR. Incomes. do, 88'¢ 3,000 Frankford and Louisville R.R. 6’ do. a teccartea i ae ease ‘and bonds will take place to-morrow (Tuesday), at hbalf-past 12 o'clock, at the Merchants’ Exchange. ‘The semi-annual interest on the bonds of the Mil- waukie and Watertown Railroad, issued February, 1856, will be paid on the Ist of August, at the Bank ef North America, in the city of New York. At the second board the market was a shade or two better, but the transactions were limited. We must attribute a portion of the depression in the Warket to the insufferable hot weather. Every one who can get away has left for some cooler place, and if they are wise will stay there until the ther- mometer gets below the nineties. The Assistant Treasurer reporta to-day as fol- lows:— Balance . Paid for Assay office... Paid on disbursing checks pee The payments include $15,000 for California drafts, and the receipts include #50,000 for transfer drafts on Mobile. ‘The steamship Indian at Quebec, from Liverpool, brings four days’ later intdlligence. Consols had re- ceded a fraction, and are quoted about } per cent lower. We should judge from this that the next Bank of England statement would show a decrease in ballion. The cotton market was dull, without change in prices. Breadstuffs better in prices and demand. ‘The news is, on the whole, unimportant. The circular of De Coppet & Co., prepared for transmission abroad by the steamship Niagara, from Boston for Liverpool on Wednesday, says :— ont game absence of animation which prevailed for previous to our advices of the 22d instant, fas bees te leadieg feature of our stock market dur the whoie of last week. That duiness has extended to Classes of stocks. as well those for investment as the tore speculative ki and the yon tendency of prices bas been downward. The last Liverpool steamer seems to have brought but few executadie orders. The ease in the money market continues, but the demand 13 better. Stair Stocks.—The only transactions to any amount, bave taken place in Virginia 6's and Missouri 6 without alteration in prices. Tennessee 6's, with very limited sale, bave declined r cent. City Bonds ith the excep‘ion of a pretty large sa’e of st. Lous 6's we have no transactions of any moment to notice. A few Cleveland 7's bad changed hands Radlroad Bonds.—The decline of 134 00 lilinois Central Construction has maintained some activity in it. Free land Bonde, with privilege, are in some request at 100. The demand for New York Central 4's and 1's, as well as for the different kinds of Erie Bonds, bas been limited At private sale uo transactions worth recording have ak Sharet —The decline of prices has been gene ral, and the following are the only opes which have been dealt in to @ moderate extent —Erie ata decline of Reading of 14, Cleveland and Toledo of 1‘. and New York Central of 3 percent. Galena and Chicago and Reading railroads are quoted ex dividend Money remains at 67 per cent, for call loans; paper 7 «9, according t length. Foreign exchanges are in little demand, and have de clined. Principal business on London, 100%, 109% Paris, 6 16 a 6 17%.
