6 NEW YORK HERALD, FRIDAY, JUNE 27, 1856. FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL. MONEY MARKET. Tuvrspar, June 26—6 P. M. ‘The tendency of prices was upward from the opening ‘to the close of the first board, and there was a pretty ge- meral improvement. In Cleveland and Toledo, Reading sand Erie there was considerable activity. Missouri 6's advanced 4 per cent; Illinois Central bonds, 3{; Nicara- @va Transit, {; Pennsylvania Coal, \; New York Cen- ‘tral Railroad, 14; Erie, 4; Reading, 4; Panama, 4; Cleveland and Pittsburg, 34; Cleveland and Toledo, 3. ‘Milwaukie and Mississippi declined 44 per cent. We notice @ small sale of Michigan Southern Sinking Fund Bonds at 86 per cent. Some small lots of Illinois Central Bonds ‘were sold this morning. Railroad bonds of the first class, are by no means plenty, Holders are generally capitalists and men of means, who have purchased for Permanent investment, and not being compelie to sell, sare not affected by any fluctuations in the market value, ‘This class of securities 1s gradually but steadily becoming ‘established in the public mind, upon a very substantial foundation. The new issue can take precedence of the ‘old, and when they are secured by a first mortgage, and ‘the payment at or before maturity provided for by a etoking fund, there can be no better investment. AU the money spent on the road, either from later issues of ‘bonds, or from the net earnings, adds as much to the se- curity of the issue under a first mortgage. Every year adds largely to the basis of security of first class or first mortgage railroad bond2, and the absorption is going on svery fast within our own limits. After the adjournment of the board, the following sales of bonds and stocks were made by A. H. Nicolay — $6,000 Cleveland and Pittsburg RR. 7’s, int. added.. 71 9,000 California 7 per cent Bonds, 1878,“ ry shs, Wells, Fargo & Co. 100 New Creek 80 New Aunsterdam Fi 60 St. Marks Fire Insurance Company... After the board hoiders asked an advance. There wasa sale cf Harlem 2d Mortgage Bonds at 78 percent, cash. This is an advance on the previous sales; but when we take iato considera‘ion the character and security of the investment, they still rule far below their intrinsic value. Erie 2d Mortgage Bonds seli at 984, per cent and, so far as the security goes, they are not a bit better than Harlem 24 Mortgage Bonds. ‘Tho Asgistant Treasurer reports to-fay as follows:— Paid on Treasury account $370,263 94 Received do. 115.049 50 Balance — do. | 6,153,952 91 Paid for As 4 22,884 34 Paid on disbursing checks ceeceeee 20,052 35 The warrants entered at the ‘Treasury Department, ‘Washington, on the 28d of June, For the redemptioa of T For the redemption of sto For the Treasury departm For Customs War warrants re civ id 5 ‘War repay warrants received and e' From lands... This isa larger amount than usual, The New Amsterdam Fire Insurance Company have de <lared a semi-annual dividend of six per cert. Tae Chemical Bank bas declared a dividend of six per cont. The Brookiyn City Coupons, due on the Ist of July, will be paid at the Long Island Bank. The Buffalo and State Line Railroad company have declared a dividend ef five per cent for the last six months. Tho increase in earniags from mouth tw month, since the road opened, has been very great. ‘The Mariuers Sayings’ Bank has declared a sem! annual dividend at te rate cf 6 per cent on suma of $599 aal ‘under, and five per ceut on a!l sums over 3500, which ball have been deposited three mouths prior to the 1st of July, and be payable on and after July 21.
