The other exercises consisted of national songy by, the ‘New York —— ” music by the various 1s, waltzing, feasting, &c. In fact, it was'a real genuine German free and easy holiday festival. There were en there in crow¢s, and children without number, all seemed to overflow with enjoyment. Lagec bier was there, too, in every concetvavie form. ‘There wae Jeger bier in booths and lager bier in tenta, lager bier in wagons and lager bier on stands, lager bier in caske end in jug, in bottles aod in horns—every- whe ia tact, where a hollow space was to be found, there wae lager. Men drank it and women drank is, gins drank it and boys drank, babies sipped it ard ia- ante moistened their lips wita its anc ye: nobody was seen in the slightest degree intexionted. Adjourned to Wednerday. Porsenal ae FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL. mMOsnY Warnks?. Monpar, May 12—6 P. M. This has been literally blue Mondsy in Wall street. The arrival of the steamship Atlantic at this port, with four days’ later intelligence from Europe, of an unfayor- able character Apancially, served to depress the stock market and induce sales at lower prices. The market ‘was comparatively quiet, and the transactions unusually limited. There was no stock of consequence pressing fer wale, and the bears are not disposed to put out long con- tracts, buyer’s optios, except at a handsome advance on current cash prices. At the first board to-day Missouri 6’s declined 3 per cent; Ilinois Central bonds, %; Cumberland, +{; Nicaragua Transit, 34; Pennsylvania Coal, %; New York Central Railroad, 3; Erie, 3; Hud- som Raiirced, 3;; Harlem, 3; Reading, 1; Michigan Central, 34; Cleveland and Toledo. '; Chicago and Rock Island, 3g. A small lot of Galena and Chicago Railroad sold at 111 yer cent. Railroad bonds were well maintain- ed. Only a few small lots were offered, and they sold at full prices. The following sales cf stocks and bonds were nisde at aucticn to-day, after the adjournment of the board, by A. Metropolitan Bank. Simeon Diaper’s regular me -weekly sale of bonis and stocks will ‘ake place to-morrow, Tuesday, at half-past 12 o'clock, at the Merebants’ Excharge. At the eecond beard the market was a shade or two Detter, bat was not at all active. Erie closed at 56% per cent. After the beard lower prices ruled and sales were mate ataceclice, The bark statement is more favor- able than anticips‘ed, but the public mind has become so deeply impressed with ibe belief that large end steady ahipments of specie must take place that it is folly to expect apy immeciate advanoe in stcck cecurities, At this season cf the year specie usually gces forward in large sums, but we do not see why it should create any apprebensicns, or cause any distrust among holiers of sound, substantial stocks. ‘The steamzhip Persta, from this port for Liverpool on Wednesday, will not teke out over # million and @ quarter of dollars. The California steamer is nearly due with the usual semi monthly remittance of two millions of dol. lars, and will, without doubt, be in before the next bank statement is made up. The receipts of apexis from the intericr last week were qui‘e large, and will probably continue so, We see no indications at present of an exportation of specie beyend our receipts, or even up to them, but we do see strong indications of increas- ing stringency in the money market, and have no doubt it will continue for rome weekr, With this we do not see may cause for alarm cn the part of holders of good stocks, where they are paid for and pocketes. Those who have purchased keyond their means, and carry by hypotheca- tion, msy find their margize gradually slipping away, and their loans suddenly cailed 1. Ia that onie, the only alternative is ‘o put their stocks upon the market, and let them slize at the current price, whatever 1t may be. In this way heavy losses may be realized, and we have ro doubt will be, as the money market contracts. The only safe parties in the stock market in these times are holders who have not bought beyond their meana, and can carry uncer any circumstances. The bears will, without deubt, wake up some of their past losses, if the precent stringency continues. The Avcistant Treascrer reports to-day as follows:— Paid on Treasury a¢ec unt $00 882 62 Received ao. . . Balance do, see Paid fer Arcay office..... Paid on disbursing checks The warrants entered at the Treasury Department, Washington, on the 9th inst., were as follows :— For the redemption of stocks. For the Treasury Departme: Repeyment on account of the Navy. ‘Ihe election for cflicers of the Board of Brokers took place this mornizg. For President there was a warm contest, the cancidates being Charles R. Marvin, the pre- sent incumbent, and David Clarkson, the latter being the candidate of a party who are in favor of restraining their chief executive fromi’ dealing in stocks, and raising the salary of the cftice from two thousand dollars—the pre- sent comprnsaticn—to four thousand do.lars. We under- stand that Mr. Marvin received 68 votes, and Mr. Olark- son 46. Tke following ts @ list of the officers elect, who are all &t prerent incumbents of the same officee:—Presi¢ent, Char'es E. Marvin; Viee President, Moses A. Wheslock; Secretary, Geo. H. Brodhead; Avsis'ant Secretary, Joha W. Munzo; Treasurer, James W. Bleecker; Roll Keeper FE. A. Shipman. ‘The steamship Atlantic, at this port from Liverpool, gives us four days’ later rews from all parts of Europe. ‘The intelligence is not at at all important. Financially it 1s upfavorabie; politically it is unimportant and anin- teresting, and commercially about the same as brought by the previous steamer. Corsols had fluctuated con- sicerably. They receded to 91% per cent, and afterwards recevered acd closed at 923¢ percent. Apprebensions existed in finar cial cireles that another government loan wou!d soon be announced, and we have no doubt they will be realized. The cotton market comtiouel steady ardactive. Breadstoffs were maixtained, with a mode- rate demand. from the manufacturing distric's the ac counts were favorable, and general prosperity prevailed. We give in another column a circular of the Hon. J. Hawiltoa to the creditors of Texas. I: Js a very compre- hentive review of the whole question, and it is expected that every man interested will read it attentively. ‘The interest on the bonds given by the county of Wash- irgton, Penn., and Otio eouaty, Ve.. to the HempGeld Railroad Compeny, due on the 18th inst. be paid at the Obio Life and Trust Company on cadnaee that date.
