The John Street Methodist Episcopal Charch. TO THE EDITOR OF THE HERALD. As your report of yesterday of the John street Metho- dist Episeopal Chureh ease, before Judge Roosevelt, was calculated to cause the friends of the old church, living im the distance, to look upon the decision as final, allow me to say to such friends, through your widely circu- lated journal, that we, the members of the church, anti- cipated snch a decision, and have appealed from the mame, knowing full well that when additional evidence 1s produced, which was suppressed and withheld be- fore the Bishop, and when brought before the Bench of Iuéges, the rerult will be in favor of keeping the old land- mark of Methodiam. An re who were the legally elected trustees, that question was entirely waived when before the Bishop, and Judge Roosevelt very properly admitted that the question of trusteeship may admit of argument. And I have yet to learn what judge, arbi- trator or bishop can control a statute law. The ly elected trustees, in August Jast, were James “T. Bards, ‘Thomas Ccoper and Barton Wood. If they are not, thea the Chairman of the present Board, Benj. W. Benson, end two of his colleagues, are not, as myself, Messrs. Brown, Curtis and Henderson voted for them at thelt election to office, im 1853, as members of the congrega- tin, As to the final rerult of the present controversy, the friends of the (ld Hive need not deplore; it in only the work of time, when I doubt not but they will ex- claim, ‘ All’s well that ends well.” RICHARD KEEPING, No. 5 Wall street, April 29, 1856, Savege Prize Fight, PRIZE FIGHT FOR THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS ASIDE, BETWKEN NED PRICE OF LONDON, AND YOUNG COLBERT, OF NEW YORK.
