A despatch from Philadelphia, yesterday, informs ex vhat Mr. Robert Nicholas Charles Boshsa, the distin- guished harptet, composer and conductor, died at Mel- bourne, Australia, on the 7th January, Mr. Boehsa was born in 178#, at Montmedt, in the department of the Meuse, France. His father performed on the hautboy in the Lyons theatre. The son exhibited Precocious talent. His first appearance in public was at the ege of seven years, when he performed a con- certo on the piano, At the age of nine he composed a duct anda fiute symphony, At eleven he performed a flute concerto of his own composition, and at twelve he compored an overture and some baliet music. At six: teen he Lecame familiar with the harp and several other instruments, and waa recetved into tho Paria Conserve- toire, where he took the highest prize aftor his firs. year’s study. He then introduced many improvements im harp compesition, and wrote one busdred and fifty sympho- niea, concertos, &c., ke , for that instrument. Ie was appointed by the Fmperor Napoleon harpist to his pri- vate concerts, and composed for the Opera Comigue ““L'Heritier de Paimpal,’’ an opera in three acts, which was very successful.
