Indiane—Indran Payment of the Omaha a Todey @ large number of the Omshe Indians maie their acpearence in this plees, for the purpove of meeting with « partial peyment from the hands of taeir ageat, Mr. Hepner, and {t bas given the town not oaly e more Lively appearance, but somewhat more of a frontier ss- pect than Of late. The mode of payment is simple. It is known how much each Indian is entitled to, be it ia money, four or anything else, and thus it is dealt to him. In the payment of meney, however, I must accord to the agent « judicious management. This portion of the payment is generally done under Mr. H.’s supervision, without the presence of any but the Indian to whom the payment is mace and the agent. Refusal of the Omaha Indians to Receive their Flour Hzre— Indians and Whites— Claim Meetung—General News, cc. ‘The extreme cold weather during the past week hai until yesterday deterred tie partial payment of flour, coffee and tugar to the Omaha Incians, who have been camped in the meantime about two miles from here, awaiting the samo; so yesterday being a besradle day, the Omshas—squaws, pappooses and ponies—'‘ came to town,’ and about noon such another looking town as Omahs City it would have been hard work to find. The Omahe Incian trise—that is, the remnant thereof—were ali nere. The vicinity of Shields & Carr’s store, where their provisions were stored, was the rendezvous, ani in Aittle groups upon the snow, huddled around their fires, they mostly gathered. The flour was “ toted’’ out upen the smow near by, and about the time it was ready to be ce-l> out, the Indians con- Glued, owing to its inferior qualiy, they would not receive itas peyment. TO THF EDITOR OF THE HERALD. Amengst the theatrical on difs which have ap- peared in your paper during the last fortnight, waa a statement to the effect that out of fourteen Englieh per- tormers brought to this country by Mr. Bates, of Cincia- Mati, every one, without exception, had proved failures. In addition to this the company, from other counties in the States of Tennessee and Kentucky, has bonds to the amount of $1,400,000, and $450,000 from the State of Tennessee, making $2,850,000 in all. The road is estimated to cost $5,500,000, and the above snb- scriptions, together with the individual subserip- tions, it is calculated, will complete the road.
