THE NEW YORK WHOLE NO. 6934. ————— MORNING EDITION—WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 22, 185 ‘ CITY POLITICS. The Result of the Whig Primary Elections. ‘The whigs met at their respective ward headquarters yesterday, to clect delegates to the State Convention, to assemble at Syracuse om the 26th proximo; also, dele- gates fo City, County, Senatorial and Judiciary conven- tions, to nominate candidates to be voted for next No- vember. In mo:! of the wards the issues were purely local and personal ia their character. The extreme Sewardites were geagrally successful, from their control of theyWard General aad Siate Central committees, the State patron- age, anda portion of the city offices. But the “woolly heads were loo cunning to put their own mea forward exclusively, and it will be noticed that the list given be- Jow includes straight-out whigs, republicans, Know No- things, Know Somethings (who are quite strong in the Fighteentia and Third wards), liquor dealers, and other parties representing diverse and opposing interests, Among the delegates eloct are 2 number of local celebri- ties, including Congredamen, Assemblymen, Aldermen, besides a host of pan-fsl and small-potato politicians and office seekers. ‘The elections were held at an unusually early hour for the old fogy whigs, who don’t relish getting up at six -Melock to do their voting, and, consequently, the more active and wide awake politicians had it all their own way while the old fellews were asleep and snoring. RESULTS IN THE SEVERAL WARDS. Finer Warp.—Poll held at No 11 Broadway. The ex- citement was not great, and but slight opposition was manifested to the ticket headed by Justice Greeu: Some “opposition was manifested to ‘Bob Collins’? onaccount of his beiag appointed by the General Committee as In- apector to the Eleventh ward election, an undue inter- ference, a4 his constituents thought, and he was left at home. Seo» Warp.—The regular Williamson, Welsh and Clifton ticket was chosen without opposition, as our re- porter \aderstood. The ticket embraces a fusion of all the whig elements of this werd, which, though small in population, has made quite a stir in the political history ofthe city. The election came off at 22 Ann street. Taro Wanv.—Two elections were held in this ward. ‘The inspectors of election appointed by the Ward Com- mittee at first advertised their call for the election to be held at Tyler's, in St. Poter’s place, but the call was -amended in some of the whig journals of yesterday by the change ofplace to College place, a division occurring among the election Inspectors, who have pretty nearly all to say in whig primaries as well as in those of every -other partys at present constituted. The contest in the Third wazd has been produced by quarrels of a personal cand political nature between Messrs, McMullen and Coch- rane, as to the dispensation of the State patronage for this city, The inspectors of election, with their politi- eal friends and adherents, went through the farce of holding two primary elections at both the places we have mentioued. Hon. Gny R. Pelton, whig and K. N, Congressman elect, is on both tickets for the Judiciary Convention. So is Capt. Robert B. Coleman, Seward and anti-Maine law member of Assembly for the Second district. whois om both tickets for the Syracuse Con- vention. Fovrra Wanp.—The Melaugblin ticket was as usual -chosen. and among the delegates elected are William H. Sparks, M. Jones, and William West, counsel for the ten- antry, and quite notoriour for some years a4 an orator of the workingmen. No opposition of consequence was given’to this ticket, except ty @ small number of indi- viduals who got hold of some of the tickets used at the date primary elections of the softs, and put in a few in order to frighten the election inspectors; but as the lat- ter functionaries had considerable experience, and the 4Snside of the track, they were not badly scared. Election held at Aidermnan Baird’s, 17 Oxk street. Fara Wanp.—No opposition in this ward to the ticke vleeted under the auspices of the ward commities, Poll held at 147 West Broadway. Among the delegates elee ted are Gen. William Hall, Alfred R. Booth, George J. Cornell, Charles 8. Tappon, and Thomas E. Smith. Sam Wano.—The ticket known as the ‘Jim Taylo: is elected with no material opposition, except on one of the delegations, whore ©, W. Schaffer had 25 votes to 19 for George Kavanagh, but was chosen, Seventa Warv.—Tho Morgen woolly ticket elected with- out opposition. Eicata Wazp.—The ‘Siusocks ticket’ is chosen, with a slight opposition. ‘The delegates to the Senatorial Con- vention are understood to be favorable to the nomination of Hon. Wyllis Blackstone. Flection at Oberle’s, in ‘Wooster street. Nuvra Warp.—There were two tickets in the field hero, -one known as the long ticket and the other as the short, . The latter prevailed by a yote of 200 to 40. Hon. George Briggs, ex-member of Congres«, was on both tickets for ~Aelegate to the State Convention. Election in the old Bleecker street House, up staire. George P, Nelson, Samuel Brevoort, George B Deane, Jacob Cholwell and Cornelius ¥. Anderson are among the delegates chosen. There was nothing particular to note in the Tenth, Fleventh, Twelfth and Thirteenth wards, except that the woollies were generally eocce+ful. FocmmsTa Warp.—In this ward there was a terrible tight between the adberenty of what was knownas the Wood and Macomber tickets. Ihe dispute arose out of the conflicting claims of certain parties who wished to go vo Syracnse. ‘There-was so some trouble about the de- Jegation thaf-would vote for Strect Commissioner. The affair terminated im a grand row, in which the ballet- boxes were broken. Both tickets, of course, claim to be elected. Formers Warp.—A Unicn fusion ticket elected, No sts WaRp.—There war 20 Bosen tothe ticket the sen are te Delamate' Me, Al the Harbor T, ) and Ex-Alderman James E. Pe. Gane of There vas nothing of noe in the elon wards. The workingmen had to come to their business in the lower part of the city, and the poffticians had it all their own way. DELEGATES TO THD STATY.
